Chief,
What about trying to cut up and use the sides from one of the Target Exclusive red Cobra jetpacks as a base for those top mount thrusters? They have a similar shape and with some modding, they might just work.

That is exactly what I was gonna suggest...

get out of my head, rescuer... :)

This actually works better than them being re-decoed as the seeker jets(cough, F-15e, cough). The only think I would have done differnt is paint the red on the wings as stripes, not paint the inside of the stabilizers and connect the red and black on the "chest area".
If I was feeling more adventurous, I would scribe in the panel lines where the chest and back of the robot would be. These would also serve as a guide for the red and black stripe across the chest.

That could actually work. Take the engine pods from the Cobra Jet Pack, cut out the center section, glue them together and flip them over with the pointy angle in the back. Modify the Duck Hunt guns with some booster nozzles from the Stellar Stiletto and slap 'em on the side and you've got a nice custom Fast Pack.

Here is a quick sketch of what a Macross Skystriker could look like.

You will def need to remove the tailfins and the horizontal stabilizers if you want to add the side packs.

I haven't been on in a long time, but as soon as I saw your pic asking for a suggestion, it reminded me of some big NFL robot legs from a couple years ago. I forget the name of the line but they were 12" and the NFL player's head would flip over and it'd be a robot head or somthing like that. The legs were real boxy and might work for your missle or rocket pods. Hope that helps.
