This is a friend's character from a sadly defunct Superhero project at another board I frequent. Basically a gigantic, not-too-bright nuclear-powered cyborg.

This was his original look as he'd done it on Fabrica De Herois, a portuguese flash-based character creator:

When FdH went through an upgrade, I tried my own twist on the design, evening out the proportions and giving the skull a toothless robotic look (as was my friend's original intent on his design):

As for the custom itself:
Image
I used a Metanoid figure from this new "Redakai" toyline, which I'd originally bought to try and make the more mecha-like Metallo before deciding to stick with my "Terminator" one.
The silver was all covered in gunmetal, and I used clear green to do the metallic green parts. The panel lining and rivet holes were all done in a bright green to show the energy flowing through him. I followed the creator's directions for what parts went green and what parts stayed gunmetal.
The bubble dome came from an Imaginext Superman figure, with the claw and tube cut off. I dyed it in green (because Warhead's robot skull is supposed to be swimming in a green fluid of sorts) but it came out more smokey black.

If you've fiddled with a Metanoid in store (or even bought one), you'll know these guys have an INCREDIBLY powerful LED in their backs to shine a light through their chest. That thing is bright, every time I accidentally turned it on in my eyes I'd see spots for minutes. Didn't want to kill the gimmick outright, so I cut out a square of post-it paper and insterted it in the back slot (you're supposed to put a clear sheet of plastic with a graphic printed on it to shine an "attack" on the wall or something), to drown out the brightness and give it a yellow glow. The creator chose to repurpose this gimmick as him "powering up" when he needs more juice to fight superheroes:

All in all, I'm really happy with this one. Although it's meant for my personal collection, I wanted to make sure it was something its creator would whole-heartedly approve of, and he was more than impressed with it.

Final pic: Battle of the atomic!

Hopefully in the future I'll be able to bring more characters from this superhero universe to DCIH-compatible life! :-D

I'm wondering if the torso and arms (minus the head) from this figure

would be a better starting point.

Considering that toy is practically six inches both tall and wide.... No.

Besides, the character's creator gave his approval on the figure base and the final product. In fact, when I'd shown the base figure to him letting him know I wanted to make a Metallo out of it... he said "Oh man, you could make a kickass Warhead out of that too!". ;)

I like it, but isn't this real close to DC's Atomic Skull?

Color-wise, one can suppose, although Atomic Skull was a metahuman and not a cyborg.
Truthfully he reminds me a lot more of the villain Brimstone's Justice League Unlimited appearance (as a giant, skull-faced, nuclear-powered robot), which I joked to the creator about.

But really, Warhead is loosely based on the Transformers Animated character Lugnut, and the original design's colors are loosely based on the "Atomic Lugnut" repaint.

Still not seeing the ressemblance beyond use of green, to be frank.

Since the creator is a big fan of the Teen Titans cartoon, I took this extra pic for him:

Really coolfigure, wouldn't mind getting my hands on a couple of these based figures. On a side note, this mysterious 'creator' sounds like a cool super-villain!

I like the character designs better than the figure, bu tit's still cool. Just a bit too black. The coolest feature of the designs was the clear dome, which allows you o view the head inside, which is not on the final figure.
I would also recommend a decal or sticker for the emblem and not a painted logo, it would look a whole lot more legit.
Good work otherwise.
