The Village Gong...

Image

The Village Gong is located on the west side of Oasis, in Edengarden.

The banging of the Gong is traditionally reserved for imperial Abyssian matters, and certain occasions of such import as would affect the entire community. The Gong is also sounded to indicate a start or end to various cultural observances...

As always, thanks!

Thank you, J.

Creation Notes:

The Gong is one of several smaller components belonging to the Oasis dio set. It's scratched up from wood, foamboard, and other various bits (the gold flame in the center is the plastic tail of a PotC "dragon cannon", and the finials for the posts were formed from hot glue). The gong itself was actually made from a tin X-mas coaster.

The mallet is also mainly wooden, with a strap of suede, some copper wire, bit of thread, a plastic craft bead (for the head), and a metal jump ring by which it attaches to the base.

A simple piece that adds just a touch to the whole.

Thanks again.

JZ

Looks fantastic. I really like it. Some incredible amount of attention to detail has gone into this piece. My respects.

I think it could use a logo or something, Faded would be good - maybe even just markings to indicate that there was a symbol on it that was lost to time... Etching and blackwash maybe? Dunno - it just looks a little bare.

Other than that it is, of course, amazing.

I could see that. But I also like that it doens't have anything ornate going on with it design wise. This looks like something that was rigged together out of scraps. I was expecting a Jabba's gong so this was a nice departure.

Thank you for the clean straight shot so we can see your excellent craftsmanship at work.

Agreed. As the village gong, I like that it is unadorned. I like Raptor's etching idea though, if this was to be a lord's instrument though. Then something more ornate would fit.

I know you don't much deviate in tone, but I'd have a hard time not making a big hook to go with this set. lol.

(and perhaps an Abyssian with a paper bag over his head, but that may be too obvious of a gag). lol

Firstly, many thanks to all for the comments.

Lance-- Thank you - and so are you, for saying that. LOL.

Dan-- Thank you, man. Your comments mean a great deal to me.

Kam-- Most appreciative, I thank you so very much.

Raptor-- That's an interesting suggestion. I don't know how visible it is in the photos, but the face actually does have a feint serpent motif on it. It's gold paint on gold paint, though, so it's very muted.

Thank you for the comment, very sincerely.

Pluv-- I appreciate that very much, thank you. I will always try to include a few raw pics in each post. ;)

The Gong was indeed meant to be somewhat ornate, while at the same time, represent the common community of Oasis. So I didn't want to overdo anything to a point where it would become unnecessarily gaudy.

Overall, this piece probably ought to be taken somewhat in context. The Gong is located in a relatively lush part of Oasis (Edengarden), so it is intended to be rather opulent in comparison to some other parts of the village. This is why I opted for the gold accents.

I hope that makes some sense, and thank you again.

bindy-- LOL... Um, no, I tend not to deviate. You've been sniffing the ink in those old Atlantic Reporters, though, haven't you? :)

Thanks for the comments, dude.

Thanks again, everyone.

JZ
