I always sort of assumed that if you got two Cobra Bunkers, you could back them up on each other to form a complete bunker. So I actually got around to trying this out this weekend... NO SUCH LUCK! There is a big gap across the top that Hardball could EASILY plop a frag into, clearing the bunker clean. It almost seems like a no brainer, that I am genuinely surprised they didn't do it so they could be combined. THIS IS A 25 YEAR OLD ILLUSION I JUST SHATTERED. I'm not sure about anything anymore...

Anyone have any similar disillusionings?

Also, sort of unrelated, I know I've asked this before but I forgot, again... I've heard that in addition to the Mobat, Vamp and Dragonfly, the 83 HQ had spots for the other vehicles/battlefield accessories of the day to sort of attach. But I just don't see it. If anyone can refresh me, or even better, has a pic of this, I would be much grateful.

The real question is why didn't they create a spot for the Whirlwind?

I thought the RAM fit in as well.

This same topic just showed up on the HISS Tank forums yesterday. Someone posted pics on the various items and I was impressed that the HAL looks decent in the vehicle bay: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-toys-vintage-discussion/226777-yesterday-best-day-my-joe-collecting-life.html

Someone from Hasbro put a lot of love into the original HQ. The only thing I wish the HQ had was an infirmary. I can't think of a way to do an add-on other than hacking apart the rear storage area.

Battle Force 2000 Future Fortress was a big missed opportunity. Nothing connected, the pieces all just sat next to each other.

From the same year, the Road Toad also missed the mark. I think the idea for a battlefield recovery vehicle is awesome, but it never made sense to have a vehicle designed for towing required to be towed. It should have been a modular two vehicles in one type toy like so many other vehicles from that era. The rear could detach to service or hoist a broken down VAMP, while the forward section continued battlefield maneuvers. That would have been awesome.

I always wondered why those 2 chunks of plastic were there on the VAMP station in the back. I never really paid attention that any of the other stuff worked there.

Holy Crap!

if this photo had been included with the HQ, it would have made revolutionary changes to our play environment/battles when younger!

Okay, I've been considering picking up an HQ for years now but this little nugget of information just sold me on getting one for sure.

I wonder... was any of this compatibility ever advertised? I don't recall any specific TV commercial for the HQ. Is there any mention of this on the box art? Or is it just showing the VAMP and MOBAT in those bays? Seems like a missed opportunity for some cross selling there if you ask me.

Ah... See I was hoping they could all attach at the same time for storage purposes. This is still awesome too though. I've noticed the different markings on the floor but never really gave them much thought. And that yo joe image is definitely going into the archives.

One of my favorite things is the TBP. There are four hooking areas on the platform that allow the playset to be move by helicopter, a la Marvel Issue #40

Also, I've heard that Doc's stretcher can fit on the Dragonfly, but never been able to figure that one out.
