Been packing up to move of late (just not sure where to yet  ) But as a result, my focus has been a bit scattered. Here are some projects I've been working on though.

First is a character from my sci-fi verse. He was inspired a bit by Paul when he was the blind preacher from Dune (Messiah maybe? can't recall which).

This guy is a former Lancer officer in the service of the King of Avalon. Blinded in battle, he became understandably disillusioned after a decade of having his health and well-being be ignored by the Kingdom after his last battle was fought. He claims to have had a vision, and that the visions return, and he has learned various mystical powers as a result. One is the claimed power of foresight.
Whether he has been touched with prescience, or whether he is simply crazed, the man they call everything from Preacher and Prophet to Hobo and Scourge has been preaching just outside the steps of the Royal Cathedral on Avalon Prime (Orbis Bellator) for months now. Most disturbing is that he seems to be gathering a flock of parishioners. While he has not yet done anything illegal, the King’s men keep a watchful eye out for the first sign of actual treason, so that the problem may be eliminated for good.

Other less finished work includes a new version of EXCAL/Knighthawk. Thinking this WIP will be in an adventure gear type of outfit, since the Paladin look has been covered before both with this character and the similar one from my sci-fi verse. And EXCAL, as an organization, has been disbanded, so the former ops are kind of all over the place look-wise now.

Image

Now for something unusual for me – an O-Ring “custom”. Actually the laziest of LBCs – Newsculpt Knighthawk. I made this for the specific purpose of having a character I liked when my son recruits me to play with his Joe/SW/Superheroes toys with him. I was using just the Wildbill figure that the torso and arms come from, but wanted something more Knighthawky. Lol. The Gung Ho head is a NS dead-ringer, and the GH legs give him enough height to look good with even modern figs.

If I were a kid, and playing was my #1 priority for customs, this is the type I would make. In part because you don’t have to paint anything just to change the pants. And the backscrew is a difference maker, and would still be so today, even without an o-ring.

Image

An EXCAL teaser: Still waiting to get my printer back up and running to finish him off. You’ll just have to wonder who it is for now.

This Flint was one of the first Joe customs I ever made. I didn’t like the 25A v.1 torso or arms, so I used Shipwreck instead. Makes him kind of skinny, and when I used some of the early 25A legs on him, he was mostly an uninspired figure. I actually see some potential in him again though, putting some POC/30th legs on him. What do you think? I might even dig back out the hatless head I had made for him and try to update him completely now.

The Preacher is very creepy cool!
Great start on the new Knighthawk, can't wait to see him finished.

Love the use of the Retaliation SS body for that ninja-Raiden-Iron Fist-guy. Works perfectly with the big hat. Looking forward to seeing him completely finished too.

Flint looks great, much better than what was offered.

Great stuff all around Dennis!

As usual, these are all stellar customs. I'm curious who your mystery custom is, but I have an idea.

I want to address this, though.

Part of why I don't customize is because of the backscrew. I don't have the money to spend on fodder just to have it get torn up. Once they took that out, and continued to use parts with no discernible standard, I knew my customizing was going to be severely limited. Add to that, that I like not having to worry about paint shipping, and you can see precisely why I LBC as much as I possibly can.

I really like the preacher guy! He'd make for some cool stories in a GIJoe comic!

I like the rest, but Flints torso just isn't doing it for me, the rest of him is great, but the torso is just a bit odd in proportions. Maybe a Sgt. Stone torso? or if there is version of the cobra viper one in black?

Thanks for all the comments guys.

pluv, it's hard for me to call Newsculpt Knighthawk one of my finer achievements, since he took all of 2 minutes to make. Yet, in hand he's about as fun as any custom I've spent hours/days on.

I hear ya Dan. If you go back through critiques, that Flint was actually the very first Joe custom I ever posted here. lol. I know the torso is off a bit, yet I somehow like that he is a built a bit like vintage Sam Elliott - wiry tough. In any event, while purging figures and deciding which ones to keep, sell or recycle, the thought occurred to me that this particular figure could be salvaged from the recycle pile with just a leg swap. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.

In terms of which Flint is my personal default it's still the older grizzled one from my EXCAL verse, that uses an entirely different body type.

Thanks again for the comments!

Appreciate the comments. The "ninja" guesses are all pretty good. The final reveal will be fairly anti-climactic I fear, since one of the first comments kind of hit the mark...

Anti-climactic my ass.
If it's who I figure it is, I still can't wait to see the whole completed figure.

Has me seriously thinking about copying it, even though I generally prefer his classic look.

You're selling yourself short my friend!
