Urban Myth Confirmed.

One lot of 200 and one lot of 100. This is the impossible find, the pickers dream right there.

Must just be the tip of the iceberg. You saw this blurb in the listing, right?

Quote:
Big Value here, these came from a dedicated collector's estate who had a huge collection that will be going up 80 to 90 lots a week for the next month or more so be sure to stop back we have an auction every Sunday.

The amazing thing is, how did this guy never blip on our radar? I mean on any of the big sites...here, yojoe, HissTank...to my knowledge, at least, none of his customs have ever been seen before.

Not everybody is Internet friendly. Especially if he was a Nam vet. Some people from that generation have no use for the Internet. He could have been army building this stuff right off retail shelves in the 80's.

This.

I saw that bit on a guy who collects and customizes 12" figures. He's even built a small town in his backyard and acts out each character's lives. Strictly for himself. It's beautiful, and sad all at the same time.

Marwencol. This whole 1/6 world/story he's created has been a therapy for him following being beating up in a bar.
His figures are weathered by being dragged through mud and rocks or by simply being left outside during a storm, it's pretty impressive.
In the movie, he's seen dragging this jeep to weather the wheels.

I wish I was at a place in my life where I could take advantage of this. Look at those Snow Serpents, man. And all those Fireflys mixed in with Eels and Low Lights with Corps heads.

Even at the conventions you meet dozens of fans who have no idea the online community exists and then you have some who don't care to be a part of it. Then you have people who have been collecting forever and get a been there done that feeling out of it. I know several people who dropped off radar once Hasbro and the club switched to the modern construction.

I found this about the gentleman who owned this collection:
"David Jensen was an individual who had several stories in his life. He was a model builder who had won numerous awards as a young person, he was a Vietnam veteran who suffered from war related problems, and he was an artist who had some "kinky" interests. David actually recreated a number of battle scenes, including the number of solders, types of artillery, etc."

I still haven't found any info about him beyond that, but I'm going to keep searching. Hopefully it turns out he had a family and friends who were with him to the end, but if not, it'd be nice that someone remembered him after his death.

Been reminded of a guy who was derided on hisstank for saying he had 1500 vipers. Not so hard to believe now.
