As cool as those black-uniformed Cobra Troopers are in the Dollar General assortment, I decided that some sort of explanation for their uniform was needed. Thus I present the following "file card" for anyone interested. :-)

COBRA DARK TROOPERS

Cobra Infantry

Cobra Dark Troopers are outfitted and trained like standard Cobra Troopers, but their uniforms are almost entirely black, with a silver Cobra emblem on the shirt. This is done largely for effect. The black uniforms appear more threatening and sinister, which enables a squad of Cobra Dark Troopers to take and maintain control over a populated area more effectively. It also enables the Cobra Dark Troopers to operate more readily in shadowy or night-time situations when more specialized troopers such as Night-Vipers or Alley-Vipers may not be immediately available. Although they're only a moderately specialized branch of the most basic Cobra infantry, they see themselves as the most "elite" of the Cobra infantry, doing the jobs that their more traditionally-uniformed counterparts can't, and that more highly-specialized Cobra troopers often won't.

Not bad. Let me take a stab at it.

COBRA DARK TROOPERS

Cobra Infantry

Cobra Dark Troopers are outfitted and trained like standard Cobra Troopers, but that's where the similarities cease. Once deployed, they become a wave of darkness spreading over urban environments. They use terror tactics like blasting loud incomprehensible music, and they speak to each other in a loud coded language that confuses and terrorizes. The Dark Troopers appears more threatening and sinister than you average vanilla trooper, which enables a squad of Cobra Dark Troopers to take and maintain control over a populated area more effectively. It also enables the Cobra Dark Troopers to operate more readily in shadowy or night-time situations when more specialized troopers such as Night-Vipers or Alley-Vipers may not be immediately available. Although they're only a moderately specialized branch of the most basic Cobra infantry, they see themselves as the most "elite" of the Cobra infantry, doing the jobs that their more traditionally-uniformed counterparts can't, and that more highly-specialized Cobra troopers often won't for less credit. They make their presence known as upstarts and thugs of the highest order.

From the Files of General Hawk: Did anyone ever tell you to not be afraid of the dark? No? Good. You should be very afraid of the Dark and what they're going to do to our cities.

Oh, now that's just inhuman! I mean, really, that's mean even by Cobra standards...

However, I do like your expansion of what I wrote.

You two are a match made in Heaven. I suggest many cooperative projects.

I use them to augment the Cobra SWAT and to provide security for places such as the Cobra consulate.

I'd have just used them as 30th Anniversary Cobra Officers to go with the POC/30th Cobra Troopers, myself...

Since I only have one, he's the field commander of my PoC troopers.

Hey, any of those ideas work.

And no, I certainly wasn't trying to be racist. It's just that the term "Night" has been used so often, I had to go with something else.

Rumor has it (Did it just get Adele in here?) that the Con set next year will be Night Force, so these guys might be a good foil for them. Personally I haven't decided how I want to use them, they just go well with the black Cobra Commander. I like you idea tho Trekker.

Since I was never able to army build these guys into the mook squad I wanted, I've decided that my sole black uniform officer is a special commando. If I ever get started on the dio story idea I've been playing with, he'll be pre-cybernetics Overkill.

In that storyline, Greyryder will be largely responsible for Overkill needing so many bits replaced. :whistling:
