There's a lot of stuff in this thread:

http://forum.rebelscum.com/t934608/

Jabba Sail Barge and tons of other stuff. I looked but didn't see the Rebel Blockade Runner. There was also a guy that did a huge Star Destroyer and I remember a giant battle ship too.

so, taking the title of the thread in its most literal sense, has anyone figured out how much paper mache would be needed to start that project?

I did some quick math based on 29,000 ft summit and 18in = 1 inch in 1/18th scale. If my math is right it would be about 1600 ft tall. 150 ft taller than the empire state building.

I think I remember seeing this in an issue of Star Wars Insider. Impressive. Most impressive.
The bank of engines looks a bit large, but other than that, this was quite the project.
Now where's that 1/18 Death Star or SSD? (if my math is right, and I'm correct that a SSD is five miles long, that'd be 1466 feet long)

Also, back to the original topic, I just watched Cobra's Captives last night, I'd love to see that ATV the Joes used to transport the crystals in toy form. That thing was cool. I remember trying to make it with LEGO when I was a kid.
