miragearmor, I get it, you're trying to be nice thinking maybe he'll see it and take it as you reaching out. Maybe he'll pay you back going the nice route. Good on you for taking the high road.
To answer your question, I can't tell you what I would do in his position. I can only answer to what I wouldn't do. If I were in dire straights and was having trouble in my life, enough so to borrow money and except donations, there are several things I wouldn't be doing. I wouldn't be buying toys, whether at the store or privately through the forums. I wouldn't be going to toy conventions. I wouldn't blow off any of the people I still owe money to or give them false promises I know I can't keep. And if they did chime up in some thread about how I deceived them, I wouldn't try to turn it around on them for being the bad guys. Those are things I wouldn't do.
If people don't heed the warnings, it is on them.
