I've waited quite a while for this one. I pre-ordered after a little thought on if I should or shouldn't I never got the old version and really wanted it back then. So much so that I even thought one of the presents was it when I saw what I got one Christmas morning. Once I opened the box I thought was it, it wasn't. I never actually saw it in store after that Christmas so I just missed out.
That was pretty much the deciding factor for me. I didn't get it then, so now here it is better and in the main scale I collect. Well, close. Yeah it is suppose to be 1:18 but it's just like the Back to the Future car that came out. It's a little bigger. It's not so terrible that it's horrendously out of scale but it does suffer because of it. A figure can not be positioned with the hand on the steering wheel without moving them forward in the seat.
Still, KITT mostly did the driving, so I guess you can just pose the figure without touching the steering. Michael Knight just looks a little small in there. I think it's more due to the sculpt they made honestly. It's not a great figure. Not really worth the extra money buying from Entertainment Earth for those of us that can customize. He works but has tons of flaws.
He has those derpy eyes that has been showing up on figures a lot lately. I think the eyes alone would be better repainted. It still wouldn't make the over all figure better, but it would be easier to look at.
He has a ball joint shoulder, ball joint elbow and a ball joint chest. Even his feet are ball joint. The knees are the standard swivel as most figure would have. For some reason however, it appears they decided to do a swivel neck and he has t-crotch/swivel hip. No outward motion for the hips/legs. It's this design that really makes the figure suffer sitting in the seat. He has a narrow behind and will wobble. I left one of the clear rubber bands in place so I can use like a seat belt to make him stay in place.
GIJoe guys will fit in there without a problem. Michael Knight is pretty much in line with the size of the modern style figures. They just have the same issue reaching the steering. Even a larger figure like Roadblock. But still if a customized Michael Knight were done, he would look better over all than this figure that's exclusive to Entertainment Earth.
KITT is very detailed. The car it's self looks great. It has a nice gloss look to it. As a display piece, it looks good and will be a nice item to show off. There's a lot of sculpting on the inside too. The fighter pilot looking steering wheel, the detailed dash, the seats look like the show, all the way to the center console. There are things left out though. No stick shift, no upper controls, and a few other minor things left out. First picture below is of the show car's dash followed by the toy:
There is a back seat, but there is hardly any leg room. I guess you could force a figure in there but it really wouldn't be a great fit. It would have been nice if the front seats were positionable so they could have moved forward and allow the figure to reach the dashboard plus a figure could sit int he back.
The other side of the dash has a blank space to apply stickers, which they provide. It's a little hard with bigger hands to fit in there and get them exact. I haven't attempted it yet, but you can see where they will go.
The sticker sheets has the remaining interior set and also license plates. There are 3 so you can use the KITT, KNIGHT, or the regular plate. The plate also flips so you apply 2 of them. This is for the "disguise".
Oh and yes it does light up. The voice of William Daniels is there. I assume these are taken from clips of the original show. The lights include brake, front lights, the "cylon" sensor, and dash lights. It's a pretty neat look over all.
The bottom of the car is even pretty detailed. I was expect less actually, but it's neat they sculpted a far amount into it:
If you were a fan of the show, I'd recommend this. It's as good as it's probably going to get. If you really want, there is room to customize the few things left off on the interior. I'd recommend saving the money and buy the car without Michael Knight. For customizers it wouldn't be hard to make a better version. If you just do not want to go through all of that, this figure works. Nit well, but he'll be an ok stand in.
