Thank you Spectre! The Kryptonite was pieced together from a green lightsaber, then painted with a green translucent ink.

Awesome, all three.

And crap. Now I have to make sure mine are even cooler now.

Thanks gents!

After racking my brain (no pun intended) for non-robot versions of Brainiac, I think it's kinda funny that he ended up being composed of some pretty common fodder. More than likely, I think a lot of customizers have a good 80%-90% sitting in their graveyards.

Funny, IW, but I always say the same thing to myself when I see your new work! Thank you so much, man!

The new Supes villains are spectacular every damn one. But i have to say, they are so good that they highlight even more for me that something seems off with that Supes.

Now that said, I can tell you have an affinity for the rogues, as even your Batman was outshined by many of his villains. Good guys are always harder to make interesting I guess. And if the trade off is we get to see the villains you've been cranking out, then so be it!

For disclosure, despite many hundreds of customs, I've yet to tackle Superman myself. I haven't found a way to do it in a way appealing to me, so I might just be too demanding for that character?

Gentlemen, thank you guys so much for your kind words! I'm in perpetual awe of the work all of you do, so it means a lot specifically coming from you all. Your words humble me, so thank you again.

Thank you, good doctor! I do, indeed, love me some villains and find them a lot more interesting to work on than heroes... though I do have some tricks still up my sleeve. Bats and Supes are not alone by any means...

The hunt for a proper cape for Superman continues, though I have to say I'm warming up to the cloth one, now that I've done some folding and modding. Don't know if I'm ready to make it permanent just yet, but I also don't know if I want to do a plastic cape. Knowing myself, I'll be happy with Supes for now and let him be, then make the fixes randomly when I'm between projects. Right now I'm having too much fun jumping from character to character.

Glad you're loving the villains, as I've got about 8-9 more of The Batman's rogues on the way: Gotham's Most Wanted 2 will make its debut at CustomCon 35 this summer :-D

Until next time, I leave you with a question:

WHO KNOWS WHAT EVIL LURKS IN THE HEARTS OF MEN?

When I was little, my mom used to tell me stories about when she was a little girl and how she was terrified by re-broadcasts of The Shadow on the radio-- "That laugh and the voice," she would say. "WHO KNOWS WHAT EVIL LURKS IN THE HEARTS OF MEN? THE SHADOW KNOWS!"

The way she described him, I thought he was a ghost or a monster, not the ground-breaking pulp character I discovered later through comics and the 1990s Alec Baldwin tour-de-farce "film." At the time, I loved it, and it introduced me to characters from 60 years earlier that inspired a lot of what I obsessed over-- Batman, and, oh, you know, comic books in general. As laughably cheesy as it is, this piece probably wouldn't even exist without it.

Image

Completed in June 2013, this project has been in the planning stages for a decade. Works in progress go back to when I was using GI Joe A Real American Hero parts, and it all started with one piece: the head. Lamont Cranston (or Kent Allard, depending on which continuity you're going with) here consists primarily of a Marvel Universe Professor X figure with an Overkill GI Joe head and Indiana Jones fedora. The pistols and cape are just repainted accessories from my Fodder Graveyard.

Image

Image

The most obvious change I made to the design was the removal of The Shadow's giant nose popping out from the red scarf around his face. While this was primarily because of the use of the Overkill head, I've ALWAYS disliked that one part of The Shadow's appearance... to be frank, it looks stupid and is a holdover from a previous era that ruins an otherwise awesome aesthetic. That Overkill was too good a piece not to use, so Mr. Cranston got a bit of free rhinoplasty.

hey, great minds think alike again! lol

Love this addition to your verse. and love the mood of the photos again too.

I've got a couple of prequel eras mapped out for my EXCAL story, so you can be sure I'm taking some notes ;)

Yes! As soon as I saw Overkill in that JvC 2-pack, I knew it was The Shadow sitting there, not some crazy cyborg/android thing. What's awesome is the recipe you used on your Shadow-- my ARAH/JvC Shadow would've used pretty much the exact same parts!

Occasionally I think about what other heads I could've used, and maybe a combo of a modern era head with removable scarf accessory... but Overkill is still too perfect. With heads that pop off, swappable heads are no problemo. Maybe One day I'll make some civilian heads for all my heroes...

Doctor, after your post about wanting to see some more pulp heroes, this one's for you, man!

Thank you for your kind words about the piece and the pics-- The Shadow just lends himself to atmosphere, so it was a lot of fun trying to replicate that. As promised, he's one of a new batch of pulp/pulp-inspired pieces I've been working on. Got two more about a day from completion and at least 3 or 4 planned. Just gotta catch up on my photography again. Once I do, I'm planning a cooler, even larger group shot than the one above.

Really looking forward to seeing your EXCAL prequel universes and how they weave in with the brilliant work you've already done. Creating across multiple time periods is a ton of fun and very satisfying, and I'm looking forward to sharing my "Beyond"/futuristic version of Gotham's Most Wanted sometime soon...

Thank you toy-nutz! That's the true test for me. It's one thing for me to be inspired by something I see, but it's quite another to want to go out and buy the figure instead-- thank you, man!

Thank you so much! Always had the weirdest attachment to the character, and once I saw that Professor X body, I knew I had to make Mr. Cranston. Some pals are on the way...

What is it about villains with cold-based superpowers/super-gadgets? The tragic Victor Fries will always be my #1, so I guess that makes Leonard Snart here #2... Though I'm sure I saw him in a variety of media as a kid, my first solid recollections occurred as a teenager, seeing him as a guest baddie on the Batman/Superman Hour, etc. He's kinda over-the-top, but he at least seems like more fun than glum, "Let's Kill Humanity" Mr. Freeze.

Image

Completed in July 2013, Captain Cold is primarily a 25th Anniversary Arctic Snake-Eyes, with some fur from a Snow Serpent and a head from a Han Solo in Hoth gear figure. The goggles and pistol were pulled from my accessories bin. I was never a huge fan of the yellow/gold and all that additional fur on Cold's costume, so I tried to ground the design more in reality by giving him some heavy leather gloves. As a nod to his roots, though, I did want to include fur on the shoulder and parka. My hope is that he's instantly recognizable.
