I have looked forward to seeing what was next each day. Incredibly good job. And it kept my attention each time.

This has been one of the funnest things ever. Maybe in another 6 months or so you can do it again.

I know that the time frame that you pulled these from is much maligned, but after a few years of mostly black with accent color figures, it's really nice to see color again.

It is much maligned. Some of the complaints are warranted, others not so much IMO. A lot of people came forward during the project to say that it was bringing back their childhood memories of their first Joes. That was always nice to hear.

I agree with you about color. That may have been one of the reasons I was attracted to this project. Toys should be fun and color is one way they can be. For example, I had a blast making all of these, but the most memorable is definitely Leatherneck. Painting all that yellow and brown giraffe print on his trousers was a fun challenge. In the end all of these will be displayed together, so I will have one shelf of bright colors among a bunch of shelves with greens, tans and blues :)

I would love to do this again with an new theme in a few months time. We'll see how things go...

Great work all around! I wish there was a way to purchase these in the stores. You did it and I am a little sad there is no more to look forward to!

The Spirit, Interragator, and Outback are great starts. Don't give up on them yet. But take a break and enjoy and thanks for sharing them!

Wow. Those group shots are a thing of beauty. Do you think you'll be keeping/displaying these, or selling them off? They're a really wonderful set, you should be proud of the work you put into this and the amazing results.

I'm sad to see this project wind down, but I don't think we've seen the last of your talents. I'm very impressed. Your paints are so smooth and the finish is flawless. Any tips and techniques that helped see this project through?

It's easy to look up someone's body of contributed work in the Gallery, but it is another thing to see a daily update of quality customs.

Some really good stuff in this thread.

Thanks for taking the time to view and comments on these. Between the GI Joe Train and Battle Corps Month, it has been a busy customs-filled summer, so a short break will be good. But I'm still working on a few commissions and the Rogue States GP as well as a few other things. I would like to finish the WIPs that were posted yesterday and also tweak a few of the BC figures (Big Bear's collar, Flint's beret, a few other details) before I post them to the gallery here. I also like Raptor's idea of another themed month down the road. Ideas and projects are plentiful, just need to make sure I'm not spending all my time in the basement :-D

DanoftheDead, right now, all these are displayed in my collection. I have had several offers, so if I decide to sell them, there are interested parties. For now, I think I'll be selfish and enjoy them for a while. After all, my collection is unique with these in it.

As far as tips to see this project through, it's all in the planning. Making the customs is one thing, but first comes the research to find good reference material, deciding which figures inspire me, shooting, cropping and uploading pics, writing blog entries and deciding which customs to showcase and in which order, all takes time and a lot of planning. I have a 15-page Word document with everything I wrote during the project and an Excel spreadsheet with dates was used as an ''Order of Battle.'' All in all, it actually went really smoothly and doing it again sometime down the road does not seem daunting to me, it sounds fun. Of course, I'm a little crazy that way :-D

This was a great month. You were able to show off what would have been 3 years worth of customs from me. Crazy. It even got the attention of former Hasbro guys.

More importantly, you've raised the bar not only for yourself but for the rest of us. Besides your WIPs, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Thanks you for the kind words. Did I really attract the attention of former Hasbro guys?!

Cool! I don't know if any of them worked on Battle Corps. If so, I hope to have done justice to their designs.

Just wanted to chime in late here and and add my voice to the praise one more time. I was 12 or 13 when these figures originally came out but I was still very much collecting (and playing with) Joe at that time so this project has definitely struck a big time nostalgia chord with me. I think you're right about the crazy colors adding some fun to the line and I applaud you for sticking with faithful recreations when it must have been tempting to do some updating.

I haven't been doing a ton of customizing lately but threads like this certainly make me want to pull out the fodder and get cracking. Awesome work!
