Some of the blame is on IDW for the that, they have introduced far to may, and often unnecessary redesigns and renamed characters that they knew wouldn't get figures. I'm all for some, but i'm hoping with the new book, they mostly use toy or classic designs.

I'd settle for at least a wave of figures like the current Transformers that have IDW comic pack ins. That would be the way to do it. It doesn't HAVE to have a GIJoe figure that fits in it. It would be nice but it would also be fine enough just to finally see a HISS that turns into a robot even if it's smaller scale.

Now I hope they stay with the classic style character designs (ie Bumble Bee should be a VW, etc. When they changed him to a muscle car they ruined the biggest part of what made him a great character, the fact he was not as big as the rest of the Autobots but he had one of the hearts of them.)
They could just produce a scale figure that would sit in the cockpit/control area (ala the scale Star Wars vehicles they did a few years ago) and then also a standard scale Joe.

Personally I would like to see the new characters (from both IDW & DD) including Rory & Glynnis, Krake, DD Firewall, DD Red Shadows, General Rey, Phoenix Guard, Alexander McCullen, Lillian Osbourne, etc. As for new designs/character remakes there are very few I would want: DD - General Colton, Jinx, Rock N Roll, Mainframe, & the Coil IDW - Dial Tone II, Crystal Ball, & really that's about it.

I am a big fan of both franchises, and I really want to be excited for this...but sadly I am not. I am not sure if its the creative team, the fact that its out of any continuity, or that I don't recall enjoying any previous GI Joe/Transformers corssover.

stopping before I rant about the heavy influence the IDW Transformers comics have on the TF toy line...

You crazy, the comics influenced toys have been go so far, and we're only 1 wave in! Skids, Waspinator, Tailgate, and Swerve all look pretty darn good for upcoming stuff.

exactly... TF collectors get toys based on the acclaimed TF comic designs for characters

meanwhile in Joe line, there's zero chance of figures for Ronin or Bildocker or Krake or any Cobra Files versions of the established Joes

If I had to guess, I'd say that the Transformers line is using IDW characters and designs because the current lines have been generally well received by fans, especially More Than Meets the Eye. It doesn't seem that the IDW Joe universe comics have the same following, so creating figures based on those designs is probably more of a risk.

It probably would also help if Joe had an actual retail presence and didn't have the scheduling in disarray thanks to the movie shuffling. :)

Yeah, that's likely what it is.

MTMTE is very good, the only time in my life I'm not trade waiting.
