Thoughts are welcome. I got a couple figures near completion last night, and spent the rest of my hobby time piecing together some new stuff.

Actually, first is one I showed before. Almost done now, and that is EXCAL Gandalf. I know some people are against having smoking items on their toys, but I felt Gandalf needed something. I didn't want to go with a pipe, because I don't want him to be eccentric or too overtly carry his fantasy look into the contemporary setting. So I gave him a cigar instead. I feel that's still the best contemporary counterpart anyway.

Next is a character likely destined to be a mercenary. But I haven't fully decided yet. It isn't Kwinn, despite the head.

Image

This one was a simple re-purpose of a body I had used for Scarlett previously. Basically just trying out new heads, and I think this has potential. I will likely re-color the top to make her more distinct.

And lastly, Adventure Team is all the rage again. I had not done much with my EXCAL AT for years (Since making Doc Savage, the Mythbusters, Steve Austin and Race Bannon members...) I figure this group has to have a tie-in in some capacity. I might just have to re-visit my entire EXCAL AT line. Mythbusters need updated, and I can tie in Steve Irwin, and my most recent Flint (who I made as team leader) and others. It won't be the traditional AT, but a nice all star roster for it instead. We'll see. But for now, here at least is a fun little group on safari...

Gandy needs an oversized pipe.

I just can't see him as the cigar type. I have no problem with most of excal having cigars, but it's just not his image.

Loving the Adventure team. That body absolutely works - hope that you aren't changing much on them.

thanks for the feedback and the comments on the ATers.

I hear you on the pipe for Gandalf, but I disagree. The pipe for Gandalf in Middle Earth was the same device as everyone else. It didn't make him eccentric, it just was a sign of the times. Carry him forward, with the pipe, and now that is something that makes him seem a bit off compared to his contemporaries.

And the cigar just fits better with this persona, which is modern taker of names and kicker of asses in the intel field. I think the pipe would make for a clearer homage, but would take away from the role.

That said, in the other pics I posted, I did give him a cane, in lieu of his staff. I contemplate making the cane have various techno functions (flashlight or laser tip, etc...) to emulate certain of his staff functions.

so maybe I'm a hypocrite on it... lol

I disagree with you on the pipe. I don't think it would make him eccentric at all. As (I'm assuming) an agent of British descent I can totally see him using a pipe rather than a cigar. It's not about eccentricity so much as it is about class. Think of Obi-wan and his "elegant weapon for a more civilized age". The cigar is a rough and clunky thing where a pipe is more sophisticated. It doesn't have to be his LOTR long pipe or a fancy Sherlock Holmes pipe. Just a simple, hand carved looking piece that's been in his family for generations or something. A piece of civilized life in an uncivilized world.

I'd say give Gandalf a 'FDR cigarette holder', the one with the long tube. That might look cool. He could use it for a weapon too.

What head is that on the female?

I thought about this also.

A pipe just seems too...obvious... to me I guess.

DJ, the head on the female is from a Harry Potter figure. I'm hoping to make her appear older with some paint, otherwise, I'll have to find a different one.

You know I love that Gandalf. I have no feeling on the pipe/cigar debate, but he definitely rolls his own, whatever it is. He does need that sweet cane you showed him with, though. What are the other parts used?

Not Kwinn looks sharp, but I'd give that body a darker paint job.

Not Scarlet also looks good. The choice of the Resolute legs really makes that mold pop. Did you have to do much painting to match the waist to the legs?

As far as your AT goes, I'd recommend some paint or some part swaps to make them look less uniform.

Always great to see new work from you!

I like the rolls his own angle. Yeah, he definitely carries the cane. Debating what extra to do with that also.

I think I painted the legs and waist on not-scarlett quite a bit to get the Jeans look. But I can't recall how far off the shades were, or if I needed to paint otherwise.

Looking at Non-Kwinn the thought occurs to me how much more I'd dig that body if molded in a medium gray, with the same black trim.

AT - yeah, these are just parts assembly stage figures thus far. I plan to detail the bodies, at a minimum, and perhaps change out the boots on one or the other. Also hoping if I do more detail work in the accessories that they will help differentiate, but I like your main point. And it gives me something to think on.

I love the AT guys. They look like they would be Friends of Allen Quartermain. The heads are great, I think that with the slight gear changes etc. make them look like a well trained and unit. Excellent uses of the kwinn body.

I thought I had answered this before, but apparently it was on Facebook. Anyway, easier than re-typing (or even remembering):

Yes. My brain is foggy from too much pipe weed. I do recall you saying that now. :whistling:

That Gandalf is so cool. I want to say something more but my brain is fried. Interested to see where the other figures go too.

I used to have the head you used for Gandalf, he looks good to me. The female looks good to but her face is kinda ugly but a paintjob from you would change that issue.
AT I don't really care about but it's good to have them look similar
