Neat, a League of Batmen story for Cobra Comander. What are the chances one of them came form a secret organic cult hidden in the mountains.

8-O But we already know the origins of Cobra Commander... Oh wait they mean the IDW Cobra Commander.
Eh, unless it's the same as the Hama-verse I'm not to sure I'll be overly impressed. I mean to me most of his appeal was the fact that he was a home grown terrorist back before we even knew what that was. That actually was my biggest complaint about the Sunbow universe, the fact they made Cobra Commander into a resident of Cobra La.

One of the many reasons IDW has lost me. I can buy some change, i didn't want it to be Cobra-La based, but this Cobra as a long standing orginzation with many commanders thing feels far too different. I think I even prefer the ROC origin, because at least that way CC is a character, not just a title or a plot device. and the current CC? Just Krake to me.

Everyone knows Cobra Commander is Rex Lewis, former squadmate of Duke and Ripcord and apprentice of Dr. Mindbender. How silly to think differently.

..I don't know how many of you are reading IDW's Joe title('s) but ..their Cobra Commander is bad ass. He comes off as / is written as a serious threat not only to GI Joe but to his own employees and territories .

The way he indirectly let a hacker employee know his stance on failure in a recent Special Missions issue (and the fact that he immediately followed up on that implied threat) was impressive.

If this isn't one of the variants, this comic will suck.

Which Cobra Commander was that? The first one that basically showed up to eat a bullet or the second one that was some super-original-super-cool-original-IDW-creation-you-guuuuys that won the ridiculous "who can kill the most Joes" contest to become the new Cobra Commander? Or did a new one sprout up?

The original Cobra Commander, late in the run, also had a way of dealing with failure:

Wait, I thought Cobra Commander's name was Fred.

And he was working as a mechanic, who then shot some hippie in the back and put on some armor to become the Cobra Commander.

:shifty:

No, the hippie WAS Cobra Commander. After Fred shot him, he was buried alive, and a bunch more Freds dug him up and brought him back to life, where he had a crisis of conscience and then decided he was evil after all.

Did it seem weird that when he talked about his recovery he looked just like all the Freds in the flashback scenes?

Yeah.

And it also looked weird even later on when he unmasked in front of Destro and Zartan and he had this weird teensy ponytail behind his head.
