This has been considered an artist error.

No, the hippie WAS Cobra Commander. After Fred shot him, he was buried alive, and a bunch more Freds dug him up and brought him back to life, where he had a crisis of conscience and then decided he was evil after all.
Yeah, I know.
Everyone was listing off the other versions of CC, and a lot of people never really considered Fred to have been 'Cobra Commander', so he generally gets ignored. I, on the other hand, really liked the angle back when they did it, so I wanted to bring him up in the discussion. ;-)

Yeah.

And it also looked weird even later on when he unmasked in front of Destro and Zartan and he had this weird teensy ponytail behind his head.

Maybe Cobra Commander is the real Faceless Master of thr Arashikage clan.

..I don't know how many of you are reading IDW's Joe title('s) but ..their Cobra Commander is bad ass. He comes off as / is written as a serious threat not only to GI Joe but to his own employees and territories .

The way he indirectly let a hacker employee know his stance on failure in a recent Special Missions issue (and the fact that he immediately followed up on that implied threat) was impressive.

Which Cobra Commander was that? The first one that basically showed up to eat a bullet or the second one that was some super-original-super-cool-original-IDW-creation-you-guuuuys that won the ridiculous "who can kill the most Joes" contest to become the new Cobra Commander? Or did a new one sprout up?

That one :D ...

and he is bad ass. A CC of fewer words, no buffoonery (so far) and a ..ruthless efficiency. He is very much a "less is more" character thus far . Like a ...quiet Tony Montana.

To anyone interested in his origins - read the 2012 Cobra Annual .

The Cobra Files title is my preferred read but this CC isnt bad at all.

I'm sorry, but I am way to fond of Cobra being a terrorist organization that started off as Amway (er..Arbco) to accept any other origin. Every time someone tries to pitch Amway to me I always say "Is Major Bludd in your upline?"

No buffoonery? Pass.

Funny thing about CC in Sunbow's 20 Questions, he tells Hector Rameriz he led a mutiny at his military school or something....then later he's a multi-eyed bio-engineering blue skinned guy from a prehistoric society. I wish Hector got to call him out on that lie, but no Season 3...instead we got Dic.

Sunbow cartoons were never big on that pesky "continuity" thing.
Hell, you wanna talk about CC, he's apparently blue-skinned and multi-eyed but before that movie any time he wore the hood, he had regular skin and regular eyes peeking through those holes.

Also, DiC had the best episode.
