Where did the headset come from? Great use for that ammo case.

It's from one of the Animal Planet sets, I can't remember which one. On my list of tweaks, I added a note about changing the hose on the radio to a piece of string. The hose is too rigid to use with the figure.

We're starting the second half of the project with Eight Ropes of Danger.

That, as all of these are, is awesome. The only thing that bugs me about this last one is how the helmet is too wide on the shoulders. I don't think there's anything that could be done about it, or if there is a different helmet with a smaller collar but the same look, but it pulls me out of the world of the custom for a moment. The same thing happened with the fire response guys' helmets. It's a small thing though.

This is without a doubt the most ambitious, awesome, and well executed project ever.

You're killing me.
I simply can't take anymore.
The first few customs just made me feel inadequate but now you're just rubbing it in.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Lance, I get what you're saying about the headgear. I actually considered designing the helmet with 3D software and printing it. In the end, given the scope of the project and the million other little details I had to take care of, I chose expediency :-)

Seconded. What is the dog sled from, please?

As impressed as I am, I am now feeling a little down. You beat me to it. I have had an Action Man Antarctic set planned for well over a year, and I am just getting my mind around to making it. I only need a couple of accesories

"Where does he get those wonderful toys?" He makes them, of course! Seriously, where did the sled with the huskies and the storage case come from? They are brilliant for the 'Fight For Survival' set...

:-( This thread is not meant to make people sad, it's supposed to be a celebration of 50 years of fun toys :-)

The sled, dogs and harness are from an old Lanard (I least I think it was Lanard) Polar expedition set. It included a map, polar bear, the dog sled, a supply pod and a few other accessories. I picked it up at a toy show several years ago and it has been sitting in my fodder bin since then. Without spoiling too much, a few of the remaining accessories from that set may show up later this week :shifty:

Kambei, I'm looking forward to seeing your take on the Action Man Antarctic set.

Shakka, the supply chest is from the Mega Bloks Call of Duty sets. I cut away the connector posts on top, glued a small piece of styrene, painted it in AT colors and added the logo. I was able to acquire a few of those chests through a trade, so they will show again before the end of the project.

I'm really starting to see a way Hasbro could "liven up" Joe. They don't have to go full-on Adventure Team, necessarily, but they could issue Mission Packs like these (and the ones of old). The "Ultimate" figures came with tons of weapons, but that doesn't lay out a story for kids (and collectors...) to play out. Hasbro could recast a lot of items, add in a new backpack/sled/spring-launcher/whatever, and give it a narrative. Heck, they could even do it "Listen 'n' Fun" style and whip a poorly read fanfic story on a flash drive MP3!

OB's recent sets have not only been flawless, but they spark the imagination. Toys can still be relevant if they hit that angle.

Looks like I will have to scratch build the sled as planned, and use Schleich or Papo dogs. Just a pity they don't use a more dynamic pose.

You are KILLING it with these. I would absolutely buy these at retail. Your paint work is so clean it looks factory... No it looks better. Amazing work.
