The shirts on the hangers might be my favorite thing out of that entire playset. And that is saying something because I like everything a lot here.

I would buy that HQ in a heartbeat. Does the scale of this project have any precedent? This is like an entire line of toys here. I still can't believe this all came from one person. Its amazing.

This is without a doubt the greatest custom project of all time. The sheer amount of work that you have put into these is greater than my customizing career.

This.

This whole project + the outcome is just Image

So when did you start this project? Do you dare to estimate how many hours of work are involved?

I started in mid-August, shortly after I wrapped up Battle Corps Month. I have no idea how many hours I put in. I'm not sure I even want to think about it  From the start I knew that 4 and half months was tight to make things happen on the scale that I was thinking about. I didn't have half of the necessary vehicles. I had some spare AT head casts, but no vintage ''Action'' heads. The project started with a bunch of repainted modern Joe heads. I contacted Paul ''Raginspoon'' and he made magic happen. He had 30 vintage style heads at my door by the end of November. By then, most of my figures were painted and I was still working on my vehicles. After that, I still needed to build the dios, buy a new camera and light tent, shoot everything, crop images, write copy and be ready to start posting on January 1st. (Also, I was working on another project simultaneously. More info on that next week ;-) ) Not everything turned out exactly as planned and I want to go back and tweak some stuff, but I'm super satisfied with the way it turned out and the positive response was fantastic!

I have to admit that I felt overwhelmed a couple of times and I questioned my sanity more than a couple of times, but I never once thought about pushing back the date of the reveal. I wanted to kick off the year with a celebration of 50 years of happy childhood memories and nostalgia. It seems to me that with all the doom and gloom, the lack of information and uncertainty about the future of the brand lately, it would be fun to remember that toys are supposed to be about fun. So, happy birthday Joe! Many happy returns!

Ok, I'm getting off my soapbox now ;-) Thanks guys for looking and commenting. I was a great ride. I think I mentioned this already, but I'll post some group shots, wips and other stuff tomorrow. With the mods permission, I'll put all that up in a second thread. This one is pretty pic heavy :-D

OB

I held back from posting on this thread until the last day because after the first few days I realized I was just going to keep saying the same things. This is hands down the best custom project I have ever seen, on top of being the most ambitious. Really, words just can't describe how amazing this has been.
On the one hand, it makes me sad to think what an amazing toyline Hasbro could have made for G.I. Joe's 50th Anniversary. Really, this line at retail I think would have been a big hit, and it all could have been done with existing tooling (save for the head, which would have required one new sculpt for the entire line). On the other hand, it has been so amazing to see this every day. Also, it's probably better this wasn't a real toyline; no way could I have afforded all of these guys if they actually were released!
OreoBuilder, be ready to sweep the 2014 JCAs!

This project has just been amazing to watch unfold. I have never been very excited about "old Joe," but I have to admit I'd scoop these up at retail if they were available. This was incredibly ambitious, and I can't believe how flawlessly you pulled it off. This is a very inspirational and special project, and I'm just sad the months is over. I was looking forward to the updates everyday, and never once did it disappoint.
