Okay, I just finished watching this. Keep in mind I've never seen an episode of "Community" in my life.

I -- am honestly not sure what to think, except I think I may have had one of the most bizarre experiences of my life.

I have to give a LOT of credit to the producers of the show and the animation studio they hired to pull this one off -- to match as closely as they did the animation style of the time period, the character design, and even -- to a shocking degree -- a lot of the voices of the established characters. I'm assuming they didn't actually have anybody from the original show?

The funniest part for me was the commercials for the toys -- especially for all of us here on JoeCustoms. And frankly, between the custom toys and all of the legitimate vintage stuff in the episode -- Wow! Never mind that weird transition between the Duke toy in the cartoon and its "real" counterpart.

And clearly they had a good handle on what they were doing. Having that one character look like the MODERN-DAY Quick Kick was an interesting twist.

The end credits went by way too fast for me to get a decent look at them, but I would expect they had full permission from Hasbro for this one. And I'd've loved to have seen who did some of the voices.

I haven't seen it yet, but it's been confirmed they DID get quite a few original voice actors to reprise their roles.

Well, that explains it. I mean, Chris Latta would, of course, and unfortunately, be impossible, but I thought some of those others sounded just a little TOO close to be THAT close.

Somebody needs to post the complete credits to this episode somewhere so we can see who did what and who voiced whom, instead of that rapid-fire fine print that played over the "PSA" at the end.

Argh. Severe storms came through tonight so it was preempted for a weather alert. I'll have to find it online tomorrow.

Wow, sorry to hear about your bad weather AND the pre-emption.

Around here, the only thing that sometimes happens -- which thankfully didn't tonight -- was the cable company will sometimes mis-time a local commercial and it'll cut into a couple of seconds of programming. So I'm watching an ad for a local carpeting place where the owner doesn't know any better than to put his thoroughly talentless preschoolers in front of the camera to try to read the store slogan and sales pitch, and I'm like, "Shut up, shut up, get back to the show!"

I have to say, only two things about the episode made me raise a bit of an eyebrow. For one thing, the remark about (and use of) stock footage. I don't recall G.I. Joe doing quite THAT much of that.

And then there was what Cobra Commander called Duke at one point, after they'd made an alliance and captured Wingman. I'm really surprised they let a line like that slip out. If it had been one of the Community characters, that would've been one thing. But CC? 8-O

You might be right, Liftoff.

I thought of two things that MIGHT have made it funnier at the end, although by that time we were back in the "Community" setting, so of course I was a bit detatched from that.

First off -- imagine if Cobra Commander had made it back. So while everyone is trying to convince Jeff that it was all a dream, we see someone in a Cobra Commander costume skulking away...

AND/OR -- a doctor interrupts the group to make sure Jeff is doing better -- and it's Larry Hama.

That...was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Holy crap that was perfect. I can't even pick a favorite part.

Flawless victory. And I want a Shark Arms figure.

you look like some Aryan foosball figure.
I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes of community when it first aired and just didn't get that into it. now I always hear about this big following and how every year it almost gets cancelled but they save it. I plan to try to get around to it again but have to watch from the start.
I didn't know they had a dungeons and dragons episode!

everytime they showed the wingman figure I though he looked like barney stintson.

I look forward to seeing all the customs you guys are going to do. tight ship. anyone going to make cold shoulder or hat muffs.

Right, it was "Aryan" that surprised me. I wasn't even sure it could be said in here.

The more I think about the episode, the more effort I realize had to be put into it. Is it just me, or did the announcer's voice on the commercials sound pretty familiar, as well? Then you've got the CGI effects of the Wingman figure flying off on his own in the last commercial (and I'm quite sure adding the Cobra emblems to the uniforms in the animated segments, something that would've been nice in the 80's).

I don't know if there are any kinds of running story arcs in this series, but I can see why this had to be a "stand-alone" episode. They've had to have been working on this one for months.

Sort of like that episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine where they went back to the Original Series. You could tell they really put a LOT of extra effort into this.
