Sculpting Medium Preference

Its time to restock on my sculpting compound. Last time I finally upgraded from Sculpey to Kneadatite. I've been very pleased with the green stuff but I've heard good things about the Apoxie Sculpt. All opinions are appreciated.

I've been using the Ave's Fixit Sculpt. It's similar to the Apoxie Sculpt, but seems to cure to a little harder consistency. So I guess, Other?

I voted Aves. Like GR, I too use "Fix-It" now. But I don't do anything so complex as to necessarily notice a difference between it and Apoxie Sculpt, so I consider them essentially the same.

I voted "Other" as well since I too use Aves Fixit rather than the regular stuff. It has a nice work time (about 2 hours) and cures rock hard. It takes paint well and you can get a lot of detail in it.

I probably shouldn't have voted, only used green stuff. Does the apoxie require cooking it?

Greenstuff. I have Apoxie Sculpt, but I can never get it to mix right.

Nope. Apoxie is an air-hardening sculpting material. The work time varies depending on what kind you get. I use Fixit which has a work time of about 2 hours but you can sometimes get another hour out of it before it really starts to set.

I want to try Fix-It having heard it holds small detail better than the Apoxie. All of them have their uses and up until a month ago when I used the last of my sculpy and green stuff I had all of them in my supplies. My biggest issue right now is that I take so long to finish customs that any supply of material is ruined from sitting on the shelf so long.

I take long breaks in between customs too and I've been using the same two strips of green stuff for about 5 years now. I don't think I'll get the strips anymore because the joint of the green and yellow begins to harden and leaves a hard spot that I have to remove so I think I get the separate yellow and blue.

Does the Apoxie or FixIt have a shelf life?

I will say that I need to buy the smaller packages of fixit next time myself too. I've had this batch for a couple years and it's still fine, but the darker part of it is starting to dry out a touch.

Yeah, the same thing happened to my kneadtite. First the yellow and blue hardened in the middle and I'd get chunks in the mix. Finally the outer edges of the blue hardened. The last of it I used it I had a 1/2 cure time.

The Apoxie I've had for 5 years almost, the B jar is solid on the top surface so I have dig down into the core of it to get usable material to mix with the A compound.

When I first tried sculpting I tried kneadatite. It still works ok, but most of my sculpting now is done with apoxie sculpt. Love that stuff.
