Gaigaan- The original intent was to have Medusa's rt arm be silver like her armor. But (for exactly the reasons you just said) we're thinking of changing that now before we send the paint masters to the factory.
Good to hear. I was a little worried about the arm being silver. Not that the figure doesn't look awesome as-is in the current photos, but it would be nice to be able to switch her from armored arm to non-armored arm, and back again, without requiring paint or a new arm.

Thanks, again, for answering my questions Erik.

I have to tell you guys I was a little slow warming up to this project - mostly because of the theme, but also some initial questions about how these will fit in with everything I have already. But Erik's input here, and a look at just what all is on the table with this huge project got me in at the All-In level, and I feel now like it's a huge deal.

In fact, I've since upped the pledge to add a couple of the 10 man army builders. It's funny, because since being lukewarm on the theme at first, I'm now mapping out whole custom projects to accompany these. In other words, I'm going the Full Spartan.

;)

(woulda said going the full Greek, but didn't want to end up in a sig)

So, I was watching Boss Fight release photos of the Gorgon Army: Green Snake, and was really struck by how good that copper color was looking, for being hand painted -

I reached out to Erik Araña with some questions, and he was kind enough to respond:

Jm7o wrote:
Erik - who is painting the Green Snake Gorgon?

Erik Araña wrote:
Me

Jm7o wrote:
what brand of paint is that copper? and yellow?

Erik Araña wrote:
I just finished her (aside from some touch up after assembling her) and will do the Underworld Spartan tomorrow

I use exclusively Vallejo Model Color now

The yellow of the eyes is from the bottle but the underbelly of the tail is mixed

The copper has a leather brown/orange clay color underneath it. It helps gold or copper pop

Jm7o wrote:
do you mix to a pantone color for paint-matching at the factory?
did you prime these figures?

Erik Araña wrote:
yes to the pantone...but I've been changing things from our deco sheets as I go. Looking at a small square of color and then applying the color isn't always the same.

Jm7o wrote:
can I share these couple of painting tips on JC?

Erik Araña wrote:
Feel free to share

I prime sometimes. Not always. I'm starting to use the color primer from army painter (thanx to Pluv) for a light base coat. I don't worry about full coverage though...just so paint sticks better and the coverage is nicer.

I don't prime customs though

-- that @#$^% pluv, always taking credit for my tips ...

Jm7o wrote:
One more question: someone commented on that underworld warrior being cast in trans orange and painted from there -- have you ever considered?

Erik Araña wrote:
We considered casting in clear but the cracks of orange are too small to let light through. He would just look black. So I'm going to do a clever deco visual color mixing thing.
Matte vs gloss as well

Jm7o wrote:
Do you want me to keep it on the down-low that you are painting the figures?

Nah...it's what I do

and already halfway to black.

If everyone who wants the skeletons added on the 10-pack cost, we'd get there fast...

This is pretty cool. A month ago the skeletons seemed so pie in the sky. Now it looks very doable. Gonna be close.

Black accessories also unlocked now.
Only 14,000 to go, and we get skeletons!

They've added a Skeleton 10 pack to their pledge calculator for $120, a savings of $30 off the single-figure prices.

They've also teased there are possible stretch goals beyond Stone Fist, and if the Skeletons become unlocked, will show something ...

yeah, seriously. Don't wait to for the skeletons to unlock before upping an extra $120.

MAKE THE SKELETONS HAPPEN (by upping an extra $120)

Aren't they a done deal now? I thought the 20k was being added at the end.

They had to adjust that -- Kickstarter has a 10k limit for an individual backer (whew!) so that anonymous donor limited out at 10k, but promised the other 10k for after the KS deadline. In response to that limit imposed, but with an additional 10k coming, Boss Fight dropped the needed stretch goal money amounts by 10k. This lowered the 'price' on the armor sets, the skeleton, and Stone Fist.

Erik - can I break you away from painting your underworld warrior long enough to ask how you achieved such a great looking stone finish on the Stone Spartan and various accessories?

Erik Araña wrote:
Yes...

but only for a minute

They are a flat grey with a mid tone dry brush on parts and then a spatter effect using a toothbrush.

in dark grey

mind you...I've got my fingers crossed that they can pull it off in production and the effect might be turn out somewhat different. But we'll try to keep it close

Jm7o wrote:
that's awesome! one clarification: the grey that you're drybrushing with "mid tone" -- is that darker or lighter than your base coat? I can't quite tell from the photo if the drybrush is the lighter or darker shade -

Erik Araña wrote:
darker then the base coat.

base-coat- light grey
drybrush- Mid-Grey
spatter- Dark grey

Thanks for the tips, Erik!
