I agree that gold is vibrant. Nicely done.

The Solo head for Smith is an odd choice but I can't think of anything better either.

The Man who knocks just needs his hat and he's done.

That 18 k gold spray is probably the best metallic spray paint I've ever used. I didn't even need to use a wash or anything over it. Just gave the ninja 3 or 4 nice, even coats.

What's funny about The Doctor's head is that the original Han figure looked like Smith to me when I found him in a box of fodder. He sorta jumped out to me as The Doctor, so I set the head aside a while back. Once I repainted it, though, the Ford likeness became much more apparent. Oh well. Luckily, my lady would much rather have a brand-new piece than have me re-work something she already loves.

If adventure has a name, it's Jim Steranko.

Like many boys who grew up in the 1980s, I was obsessed with Indiana Jones. Practically rabid, I devoured ANYTHING I could get my hands on regarding the whip-cracking adventurer. Unlike a lot of my friends and other kids, what really captured my imagination were concepts mentioned, but never shown onscreen. This was the world partially created by Raiders of the Lost Ark concept artist (and comics legend) Jim Steranko.

Jim Steranko Concept Indy

Steranko's art perfectly captured the Saturday morning serial/pulp adventure style-- he helped create the language of the Indiana Jones universe. Before any actors had been approached (including Tom Selleck and Burt Reynolds!), it was Steranko's square-jawed take that sold the character and, essentially, created "The Look" of "The Man With the Hat."

Concept Indy originally began as a Logan figure from the terrible Wolverine movie that came out years ago. At first I intended it to be my legit Indy figure for the collection, but when I saw how stylized it was, that project sat on the back burner... until I saw it on my bench a few weeks ago and said, "Steranko Indy's been sitting here the whole time..." and immediately got to work. The figure is a borderline LBC; primarily that Logan, with a bunch of Indiana Jones pieces swiped from the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Indy figures. The 40s-style web belt is from a BBI WWII soldier I had in the fodder bin. The head is from a random Duke I found.

Thank you so much gents!

Concept Indy was one of those dream builds I'd been wanting to do for years-- with some false starts-- when I just so happened to see that perfect Logan base on my workbench. So pleased with how he turned out that I might make some kitbashed cyborg Ratzis for Indy to beat up on... I just got so psyched with how he turned out that I wanted to photograph him ASAP :-D

Produced in May 2014, Darth Nihilus was commissioned by a private collector as a gift. While I don't have much knowledge of the character, I have a rabid obsession for all things Star Wars, so this project was right up my alley. The fact that he's a bad-ass Dark Lord of the Sith with a killer design doesn't hurt.

Image

The figure is entirely 6" Black Series Maul. I utilized the cloaked head, and realized that the hood peeled right off with a little Force :shifty: . The mask was sculpted over Darth Maul's face with plumber's putty, with a few greebles glued on for detail. I slightly adapted the mask's design; amped it up by being a little more alien and ghostly.

Image

Just prior to delivery. Darth Maul's non-cloaked head is visible in the bottom left of the plastic bubble. Darth Nihilus was a commission I fell in love with, so it was hard letting him go. The client was ecstatic with the result, so I know he's going to a good home... but I just might have to make another one for myself...

Thank you sir! Really dig the design of your Stormtroopers and Bayou! Great use of that head on the troopers... it has a lot of potential that maybe customizers don't always see because of the Joe movies.

Phanthro, thank you! The Transformers-Joe crossover stuff is out-of-control. Needless to say, I'm a fan.

Sorry it took this long for the replies, gents. Just finished settling into the new Lab, so I'm a little back-logged. Got a bunch of figures, but also some artsy-fartsy stuff that I might post, if you'll humor me. If they suck, I promise I'll just stick to posting the customs!

Quick shot to celebrate the 75th birthday of my favorite superhero, The Batman!

It was originally much more elaborate, with more of my favorite rogues, but it ended up working best with just The Joker instead.

Thank you, gents!

Sorry for the lack of updates-- got a backlog of pieces I still need to photograph and post. Mind's been occupied with some art show stuff and working on a line of custom miniature toys that I hope to have for sale, just in time for Christmas...
