Late Christmas present for a friend. IJ Russian Soldier body, SW shawl, 25th staff, Playmobil feather (Chocobo Feather charm!), Chap Mei belt, Real Sterling bangle, custom sculpting.

I'm hoping to finish this tonight for a friend and was wondering if anyone had any advice. I did a digital mockup of what I feel I have left to do but its crunch time.

He's a black mage from final fantasy. This is out of my general purview so I'm trying to think of something else that would be cool but I just don't know.

this is what my mind went to when i saw your mock up, which is very cool. i would so do the scarf and ears on yours, but keeping the great realistic style you have going.

What exactly do you need advice about? Looks like all you gotta do is get painting, imho.

More like ideas, I like 2DARK2C's suggestion of a scarf, I'm thinking of added soft goods now. I never would have noticed the Orko connection but I see that now too... basicly things like that.

So, I didn't finish it last night because of reasons but I do have an update with more sculpting done to the collar and hat as well as preliminary paint apps to test how my wash would look, I'll go back and add more depth to the colors. It should look good when Im done, I feel better about it now.

Thanks. It's sculpted from Aves. Just rolled really thin, the eyelets are just tiny squished pieces of the same stuff and then the tiny lacing was put in so it looks like its threaded through.

I thought about actually poking holes in and using thread but sculpting was easier.

P.S. I understand why people like WIP threads so much now I think it looks totally different than when I started and it motivates me to keep making it better. Also since you asked heres a pic of that part up close to show what I did

I love how this all came out. From first pic to final rendering, it screams.

The entire custom rocks. My Mrs. has owned/played them all, and she would fawn over this.

This is about the 5th time I heard someone mention Aves. From the way it held the fine details of the eyelets and lacing, I am impressed. Is this like a progressing sort of thing? Green Stuff to Apoxie to Aves? I must admit the ignorance of the which is better for what.

Let me say this - it was the first I started working with, I bought it because it was the cheapest considering I spent $25 at the time to get a size I thought would last...

and I am still using the same set of it I bought YEARS ago and it still works flawlessly. It's a little dried out now but once I knead it, the detail still holds fine, is strong and is great to work with all around. So for me it was a first choice, convenience, and i've just never needed anything else. All my customs with sculpting for the past few years have been made from the same $20 1 lb I think of Aves fixit sculpt.

Awesome work. Reminds me how impressed by your customs I used to be when you posted them more often.

Cap, Aves is basically a brand of apoxie. Fix it in particular is a finer, more advanced version of it that Aves offers like a.d.d., I've been using Aves from the outset, and skipped Green Stuff altogether. Aves was the brand of choice in the Johnny West custom groups I frequented is the main reason I knew of it

turned out great!

so do i search for aves or????

i've got some more yellow miliput headed my way from england. i don't care for the black as much as the yellow and i think that the stuff your using looks like a better choice for details.
