Howdy! Happy New Year!

Here's my entry for NJC 81, "Modern" Batman:

He's primarily a Retaliation Snake Eyes and random bits from the fodder box.

After spending most of 2014 working on personal creative projects and commissions, I'll be back to superhero work shortly. Taking an unexpected, back alley of Gotham City...

Glad to see you pop in, and that you got in for the NJC. Looking forward to what else you have in store.

Howdy!

Been a minute.

Lots of art projects keeping me busy at The Lab, but I had to step away long enough to watch Netflix's fantastic Daredevil series and make a new superhero custom!

Image

The stealth version of ol' Hornhead here was made from a Duke head, 25th Snake Eyes lower legs, Cobra movie trooper upper legs, Riot Viper hands, and a Law torso (I think?).

Image

The ties on the back of the mask are made from twisty ties, so they can be posed. And what would The Man Without Fear be without his wooden batons (real wood, 'natch!)?

The plan is to eventually make DD in his red costume, but I'm in no rush. Love the ninja costume so much that I'd rather spend the time working on a Wilson Fisk and some of the other villains…

I agree. That's a real clever use of parts too. Which Duke head did you use, and how did you smooth it out?

Yup. That's marvelous.

Get it? MARVELous? Because... Daredevil? See...?

Never mind.

I'm going to repeat one of my favorite compliments I've received here, but saying that this is sublime.

Also watching the show - and had not necessarily been inspired to make a show version, but now I am.

That makes me like the show costume even more. Great looking figure.

So good.

I am anxious to see a Wilson Fisk. I just finished a gray suit Matt Murdock and want to try making Foggy as well.

Thank you Joe! Do have some more superhero pieces that I've yet to post, so definitely expect some updates. I feel sorta weird posting my non-custom figure artwork… what's the policy on that? It's completely work/family-friendly, but would it go in something more Off-Topic?

Kilcarr wrote:

Thank you! I used the Jungle Duke head with the bandana already partially sculpted for me. Dremeled off the hair and did some quick sculpting on the mask and called it a day. Before the show premiered, I did a DD custom that was, maybe 95% screen-accurate… it didn't have a belt or the neck painted, but I couldn't get decent reference 'til the first episode. So, I scrapped the first torso and used Law instead… and gained Riot Viper hands in the process, so it ended up being an upgrade.

Thank you Lance! I'm a huge fan of your Mindbender customs and anxiously await each new iteration!

Thank you once again for your kind words, Doctor! I can only attribute it to my anal-retentiveness with getting this one right. DD's been a favorite for 15+ years, so the show was like crack. It really is humbling when someone tells me that I've inspired them. Without getting too Hallmark, when someone inspires me, it feels like they've given me a gift. The only way to pay it back is to pay it forward. Okay, okay, no more cheesiness! I swear!

Dan! This is awesome, because I'm a total fanboy for your work! Thank you, dude! I honestly really loved the stealth costume throughout the series, but I really had to see it in motion to appreciate it. THAT was Daredevi!

Thank you! Fisk is my next Netflix piece, for sure. Been looking around for suitable fodder, to no avail. I might have the head picked out, though. It needs to have the right amount of menace and doughiness.

I was thinking WWE BnB maskless Kane.

Well, if you want feedback on it, put it in Critiques, if not, yeah Off-Topic would be a good place for it -

Kane's head could work, but Jakks always has to have the goofiest facial expressions. Fisk is all calm, then a brutal predator, then calm again. Still gotta think on it and root through the fodder graveyard.

Joe, thank you for the advice! Definitely appreciate it. Been meaning to post my non-figure artwork, but wanted to put it in the right forum. Thanks again!

Name: SNEAK

Height: 3.5'

Species: Unknown

Planet of Origin: Unknown

Base of Operations: Unknown

Known Accomplices: Ace Raygun, Igok, Edis0n (droid), 4A-4A (droid), AKA "The Space Bastards"

Abilities: Super-speed, stealth, camouflage, computer/tech hacking, fabrication, mechanics, proficient with multiple small weapons & blades, marksman

Amongst hackers, information brokers, informants, and other scum & villainy, Sneak is legendary.

Equally mysterious, nobody has ever seen Sneak outside of his uniform of grey coveralls, tattered cape, and breathing apparatus. The helmet acts as a filter/respirator and also a translator/interpreter, so it's unknown if anyone has even heard the diminutive bounty hunter's real voice. Some say Sneak's people are distant cousins to species found in what is sometimes referred to as The Outer Rim, but that has never been verified.

Known to follow an adventure rather than a paycheck, Sneak chooses assignments carefully. Usually going for the one that sounds like the most fun, he's most often seen in the company of Ace Raygun and his ragtag crew of ne'erdowells, infamously known as The Space Bastards: The Galaxy's Most Wanted.
