Guys, I'm sorry but I just can't finish this one. I almost completed one figure, and with two to go, I pull out of this NJC. Hopefully back for next.
Several reasons:
- Had some rough time lately
- It was not nearly as fun as I would have thought working on this particular project (which was great in it self, it was my choice of group that sucked).
- Painting with yellow has been so annoying I want to throw this custom out the window.

Ok here is how far I got:

Group: Desert Dwellers
Apperance: Some Marvel comics in the 80s, among them WCA
What's the deal: They were created by West Coast Avengers' nemesis, Dominus, and are quite possibly the lamest supervillains I have seen. As I have an affection for funny customs, I have had these villains in my sight for a good while actually. The Cactus custom alone would be worth the work.

But I never got that far, and I just couldn't find out how to make the others articulated, and tbh I had so much else on my mind than this.
I have also worked on a couple of other customs, that for reasons you will soon find out, have had higher priority for me.

SUNSTROKE:
Actually I'm pleased how this turned out, when I think back how horrifying it was to paint with yellow. It just don't work, I have no idea what it is. Head and feet are pretty much spot on the reference picture. The rest is ok. If I continued, I would have used those small coctail umbrellas for his "wings".

Head: Croc Master
Chest: Tiger Force Outback
Arms: Normal Outback!
Waist: No idea
Thighs: Storm Shadow
Feet: Mercer

Again, really sorry for giving up. I hope to come stronger back for the GP and with my current projects.

That looks great. I hope you finish the rest.

Wow marvel villans I have never heard about. Not only am I amazed by that I am awe struck by what you pulled off, here nice job. I am totally steeling your picture.

I too have trouble with yellow and white. White seems to always need a base coat and several coats of white after that while. Apple Barrel Yellow just sucks. I only seem to have any luck with Testors yellow or spray paint.

For a base (or to leave as is if you want white) use
Krylon 12 minute flat or semi-flat spray paint. You won't be disappointed.

Wow, after painting the white and yellow I'm not surprised you wanted to stop. He looks great, but I totally understand your frustration.

:wow:

Just looking back and forth between the reference pic and the custom itself I am amazed at what you accomplished.

This is awesome!

Glad you liked him. Which makes it even worse to give up the challenge. I have to give credit to Croc Master's head. It was dead on for that character.
I hope to complete this group at a later stage, but not for a good while. And I really think it was the painting that killed my inspiration to finish this one.

That's cool. I'm curious how's you do the cape.... I honestly those little cocktail umbrellas would mae a good start. Sunstroke was the one character from that group that had some legs. Did anyone else ever use him later? It seems like he'd be a good candidate for the Initiative.

I might be joining you in the failed to complete category for this next one. Two of the figures are done and look great but I can't decide who to do for the other member.

Some hints on my options, one's green, one uses magic, one runs fast, one uses a bow, and one is made of metal. Your first guess is probably wrong. ;)

Lol - I totally remember those guys (have the original comic from when I was a kid.)

Great idea and even better execution. Hope we get to see the whole team someday.

Very cool - sorry you had to bow out of the NJC (I'm bailing, too, for other reasons - I just don't have the time anymore to make good customs)

- Glad to see you hacked up some more TF Outbacks as well :P

SG, I really hate that you won't be joining us in NJC21. I've gotten used to seeing your name in the roster of customizers (not-so-subtle-hint: be back for 22!). Nice job on the custom. I remember him from the comics. And yellow and white are a bitty to paint, as well as orange to me. JFAK's got some really good tips.

Expect to see some more RAH customs from me in the next contest and for the GP (and I also have a rather cool custom in the works atm). But this one had disaster written all over it from the start for me.

and..

Avengers? If not, then you have made me curious.
