This is a fun idea. Collora's Dead End is the best fan-film I've seen. Too bad he couldn't make tie-in's for it as well.

I agree that the sculpt is awesome. But I'm truly surprised AV, you're willing to support the notion of 5 POA anything, let alone at those prices. Seems like it sends a bad message to the big time toy makers (whereas Boss Fight sends just the right one).

I also absolutely agree that well sculpted 5 POA can still have a place as fodder - I'd buy a ton of Funko if the sculpt was up to par. But I'd not pay $25 for any one piece.

Just my 2 cents. But this does look like an awesome character.

He doesn't need money. Backers are the money. He can do whatever and get it funded. I agree with drbindy, this sends a terrible message to the bigger companies. No wonder they expect us to be blown away by ReAction and Star Wars crap.

I don't see how this sends a message to the big companies when it's the *only* message Mattel has ever known and Hasbro's been hearing it for a couple of years now. At least their sculpts are decent, unlike Funko's wholly worthless crap. This thing's a one-off by a single dude motivated by love, not a five-year plan by a multi-billion corporation that cares about neither the fandom nor the product.

Where is the AV I knew and....

Where is the AV I knew?

He never would have stood for 5 PoA anything. I get what you're saying. And if you were a collector of Kenner style stuff, more power to you. It's just pricey for what it is.

I've always been against the 5poa crap mostly because it's so much less than what the Big Companies can do and because it's so obviously (to me) a way to get 18th collectors to finance 12th collectors product. They put little effort into 5poas and charge more than they cost to use the excess to subsidize the costs of 6" figures. This is blatantly obvious to me with Funko, which is why I won't buy a single damned thing from them dickheads.

But I'm not seeing how this Collora guy is involved with any of that, and it's obvious he put a lot of sculpting effort into this Beastie, and I got it while it was only $20.

Too bad O-rings aren't the choice for "retro" figures. It's especially wild to me that they make these "retro" figs for new material like the Green Arrow show

What's surprising to me is how many of them I see on clearance everywhere. Even TRU (which will go out of business before it marks items down) has these figures at clearance prices. (And in the weeks before Christmas!) If this style of figure is so popular, why are the big retailers dumping them on the cheap?

The action figure market is dropping because there's no new fan base for it.
Kids don't seem to care about action figures pass the age of 8 these days.
Mattel and Hasbro are cutting on poa because they want to cut costs since they can't raise the price as much as they want.

Look at the new Star Wars line.
$8 for a "regular" 5 poa figure and almost twice that for a fully articulated "collector"figure.
They sell the same characters in both lines, but no parents will pay double the price for the same character just because it can move better and comes in a small box instead of being on a card.

Funko will announce a new line of 3,75" figures at the next Toyfair.
It's supposed to sport 9 poa and the modern licenses will be move to this line to keep ReAction about properties from the 70's and 80's.

I like the sculpt of this creature because he looks near identical to what Dragonborn creatures look like in the various Dungeons and Dragons guides and books. So like AV, I foresee some bashing in the future.

On the ReAction issue, their draw for me is strictly the accessories, save for one or two entities like the Creature from the Black Lagoon or the Mummy which have some repurposing moxie. What intrigues me the most is the breadth of the properties they have been using...Boondock Saints... Big Trouble in Little China... Alien... Taxi Driver... Predator... classics of horror... and I believe I read or saw they are attacking Masters of the Universe next? Makes me wonder if they will be hitting things like Krull (which would make Doc Rob happy ), Conan the Barbarian, Dragonslayer, The Last Starfighter, etc. I don't think they could hit films like Heavy Metal, but the decades they are sticking too were some of the most fertile years for all genre I remember.

its not even the 5poa that bugs me about the reaction lines its the terrible sculpting and the really cheap crappy looking plastic. for me the 5pos is better than nothing, but if it doesn't even resemble the character or if I cant even tell who it is suppose to be then I have no interest. I just cannot comprehend paying someone to sculpt it but telling them not to do a good job.
