So it's been a loooong time since I had time to customize. Even longer since I posted something.

Fortunately I had some QT over the weekend to tackle a figure I've wanted to do since Age of Ultron came out:

You probably recognize the base body for this big boy as the Chinese bootleg that's been making the rounds on eBay. I was surprised by how much I liked the figure overall, but the arms were just awful. And when I set about replacing them, I decided not to go with the clean out of the capsule look of the gold shields but something more along the lines of the hardworking replacement limbs (armed arms) that Tony grafted on during his slugfest with Hulk:

Once I found a scrap Iron Monger figure it was just a matter of figuring out how to orient the shoulder pads and painting everything up all nice and shiny metal-like.

Here's a shot of Tony working on the suit with some oversight from Dr. Banner:

What do you guys think?

I think I'm stealing this ;-)

I have that Chinese HB and the Kmart-multipack HB that has those same Iron Monger arms (molded in red, even!). Guess I'm doing some bashin' later on...

How tough was it getting the arms on there? Did you have to mod it very much?

Excellent!
Also, what Hulk head is that?

Thanks for the comments, guys. Glad you dig it.

Chief: The shoulder sockets needed a bit of widening to accommodate the Iron Monger arms and - because I had to paint them - the arms needed some detail shaved away that would've caused paint problems.

Gaigaan-Dnok: That Hulk head is from the first Avengers All Stars 5 poa offering. I remember when I bought it, it was on clearance and I did so only because it looked so much like Ruffalo and seemed pretty over sized for the figure it was on. I grafted it onto a height-adjusted Ed Norton movie Hulk and the colors matched seamlessly.

Love the picture with Stark and Banner checking the Hulkbuster armor over! The Hulkbuster looks fantastic!

Thanks again for the comments on Veronica, all.

And speaking of Hulkbusting, when I finished my "Ultimate" Hulk custom (pictured above), his metallic nemesis was one of two must-do customs in my queue. This was the second one:

I know it's just a head-swap/repaint, but for me it actually closes an internal debate I've been having for years.

Fair or not, I think the greatness of Ruffalo's Hulk has made me think less of pretty much everything about the Ed Norton Hulk movie, but if I'm being honest with myself their take on the Abomination wasn't all that horrible. I just wished they'd made some effort to preserve the more iconic elements of his look.

I figured adding the old artichoke head and making it fit the more grotesque aesthetic (bony protuberances and all) of the movie version just might do the trick.

Here's the obligatory throwdown shot:

some great customs and shots!

your hulk is spot on, for your newest I don't have any character references, but he's an ugly bugger :)

Glad you guys are into the Abomination. I still can't decide if I want to sculpt/paint some shorts on him.

Shorts would help tie him back to the original version more, so I say do it.

I'm not diggin' the white skull dots. I don't recall ever seeing them white before, aside maybe from shine reflections. Is that to tie them in with the white scuffs on his chest and such? I'd paint them green then do a little bit of white scuffing centered on the center top, to look like he enjoys head-butting a lot.

Yeah, I think some shorts will put Abomination over the top.

I agree with AV- not sure if the white spots on top of the head work

Its been years and years since I read comics but I dont remember them
