Some of you have seen the sets, if you checked out the most recent Joe's Cantina I posted. For the tl;dr crowd, here's some of the set pieces without all the blah blah blah.

So far I have completed the bridge and the commander's quarters.

Here's a quick shot of both, without the benefit of perspective photography:
Image

Ajax's cabin is made from a piece of packing material (the pressed cardboard variety) laid facing up, and then built up from there.

Image

One fun detail that hasn't been shown yet is that under the rug is a hidden compartment (which I dubbed the Sputnik hole because of who suggested it...I'm sure I can find a way for that name to come up in-story.

Humble beginnings:

Finished room:

and I even added an exterior facade for some depth shots:

Oh, and I found another pre-work shot of the cabin structure:

next the bridge

for the bridge I tried to add a bunch of detail to each section, though none were ever truly featured in the story. Here is the tech station where Chase Alexander keeps all the robots working, and tools up new parts for the ship when needed.

Image

Those "Voice" ornament chairs I used for each station, with some mods. One thing I was able to do was add magnets to the base of each, and magnets beneath the floor, so each will stay in place and swivel.

The Nav station, ran primarily by the multi skilled alien assassin Vox Caeda:
Image

I included both computer nav equipment and some old school printed star charts

The duct work at this station is an old PC fan
Image

The engineering station (primary engines) is also on the bridge where Da Vinci works. Yet to be added is the faster than light engine room.

Image

Image

This is in the pilot's pit, in front of the command chair, behind the pilot stations. The big beastie thing in the middle is the brains on the computer system. In reality, it was a part of the sculpt of the frame that I just worked around.
Image

which reminds me, the bridge also is a piece of packing material. This one styrofoam, salvaged from who knows what by my mother in law. The most distinctive part of it was this pit, which I knew I had to utilize.

Here it is with some parts laid about, and really only having been painted black.

The command chair

The blue wall pieces are recycled pill boxes I kept for a long time thinking they might be of use, but not knowing what for.

Image

a WIP shot, but I added a lot of LEDs as well
Image

Some lounge pieces (made from recycled toddler food containers), which will be added to a later section
Image

at this stage it was almost entirely in my head
Image

Pillboxes for scale

And a quick look again at the final product:

Unreal. It has the "feel" of a sci fi spaceship, with the tubing, the metal look... Flows and comes together so nicely.

Awesome.

Now imagine all the sets combined on a long table with an exterior ship shell, and a removable ceiling for all shots and lighting.

Well, imagine!

Awesome D, simply awesome.

Creative! Glad to see that I'm not the only one who looks at those packing inserts and thinks about how they might be used in this manner. The only difference is that you actually did something with them. Great job, Bindy!

thanks guys. you know, I'd wager that a strong 70% of both of those sets are recycled materials. PC innards, packing materials, applesauce lids, you name it. Both adds to the challenge AND opens up a lot of possibilities for creating things not already made in our scale.

First, I think the fact that the bridge packaging insert is angled across the body instead of straight on helps add to the overall design and layout. Like you can't tell the shape in the final shots, but looking back it helps add depth and uniqueness making it not the Millennium Falcon, Enterprise or Serenity. Your ship has that feel while being something completely different.

Second, I love the thwacking stick by the engine and manual. Even the proverbial "hammer" is something cobbled together. Perfect.

You are a beast, sir. Jawsome, as always. Glad to get a better look at the whole set-up.

pluv, I hadn't thought of it that way, but I see what you're saying. and thanks. Sometimes, it's just the luck of what pieces fall together in front of you, and being willing to roll with it.

UH - thank you sir

Rambo - I'm not completely sure what you mean, but that area with the hidden door is underneath the rug in the already finished room with that big green wall in it

I really like the use of "raw" everyday items used in your shots. For me, I'm more impressed and inspired by the use of those kind of things instead of scratch built, hand-made things. I work in the scrap metal industry, so I see usable items all of the time, but shamefully, rarely put them to use.
