A wave of 12 figures......its just exhausting.

You do know there are lesser options than an All-In, right? This really sounds like the most BS excuse for anything ever, man. 'Oh, no; they're offering me more than I want! Those rotten bastards!'

I'm certainly not calling them bastards. It's a very real concern with kickstarters that offer different product or variants at different giving levels--not just toys. On one-hand these often act as a sort of blackmail for collectors and that's by design. The fear is that "You want Figure X with Accessory Y...well that's only at this level of investment" and that tells me I need to possibly buy into product I don't necessarily want all at once if I want to get what I actually want.
A lot of people are voicing concern about the ability of this new company to even follow-through on a first wave--let alone one with 12 figures out the gate. They are also setting expectations very high for followup waves when they haven't even launched funding for wave 1.
Kickstarter is voting with your dollars and asking myself do I think they can pull off what they are promising, I know for me I'd be more confident if it seemed like a manageable amount of offering at the beginning.

Maybe, but not a word of that was in the post I quoted.

But if you look closely at the control art, all 12 figures are swap-arounds of like 3 figures. I can't see how that's unmanageable when we've seen the 5person BFS team deliver 50+ variants of their 3.5 bucks on top of their heavy involvement with the MTFs. I don't get the feeling that BFS are as heavily involved with CFT, but we know they're available for consulting if needed and that CFT is using the same factory that produced the HACKS and MTFs so the factory will already know what's expected of them before they even get the molds.

I fully agree that Alyosha earned the core of his reputation, but I'm not seeing anything here that's a deal-killer for this project.

Basically it seems the they are going to use, what like 3 to 4 bodies and change them up with accessories. What was the name of that other company that has been doing that for a few years now.....oh yeah ...Hasbro. But if you look back at the old Marx figures it's how they created the Johnny west line, about the same body with different heads and accessories. I mean if you don't want to support it fine, but don't go bashin something to pieces before it has a chance to even get started.

let's all agree to keep the discussion among friends and on friendly terms. There are members here who have direct or indirect connections to the project or the people behind it, but also members who have had bad experience with the same people (person). we should all try to recognize that and keep the rhetoric in check on both sides.

That said, this is a Kickstarter project, which changes the dynamic. This isn't a thanks hasblow kind of bashing. It's a discussion that will inform members here of stuff they might not otherwise know - good and bad - about a Kickstarter - which is by definition an investment and not a purchase.

I've laid out some concerns - but I don't view it as bashing. Trust me, I want a line like this to succeed as much as anyone. When the first preview pics hit, I had 3 different friends send me pics of it, knowing it's my kind of thing. I just think that the caution in the air is worth discussing.

Boss Fight flipped there BossFightShop.com from pre-order to in stock the other day. They did a good chunk of business. That was 2 years and almost a month after they launched their kickstarter. My point, by example, is that if you're really, really concerned about vapor product, wait until the line is in stock at Small Joes or wherever else it is being carried and support it then. Otherwise, putting in at the eventual single figure amount in the kickstarter still puts your investment at minimum risk. Even if you go all-in and it fails to make the minimum amount to launch the production, you loose nothing. The only real risk is going all in, having them get funded, and then product never shows up. That has never happened with an action figure kickstarter before. Delayed, sure, but not never delivered. At the end of the day, do whatever you feel comfortable with. If there are questions, there is also still plenty of time to address those too.

I fully understand concerns about John's history, but my understanding is that those problems are basically that he takes on more orders for product and that he's too disorganized as a businessman to deliver satisfactorily. But, he's not working in those positions for CFT, but as 'artistic director' where his strengths have always lain.

I don't know Paul in any capacity personal or professional, but that's no worse than most people involved in any start-up, and the involvement of BFS as consultants above their control art duties and the use of BFS' factory more than outweigh any lingering concerns about John's involvement, imho.

In any case, they have at least three more months to make their arguments for support.

I'm gonna support this at some level, probably not all in, but enough to get 5 or 6 figures.

As long as he's completely away from any production or PR (because from what I understand, he has a reputation for taking major attitude with people who inquire why their parts are taking too long) functions, it should be fine. He does GREAT work (I've only gotten a few casts from him, but the quality is the absolute best I've seen among casters), it's just the follow through that has been an issue. It sounds like the team is aware of that, and putting him in the correct roles. How far I contribute is going to depend on some things (putting a roof on my house now, so I'm a bit tapped), but I'd like to buy in at some level.

I plan to support this one, depends on the total cost as far as all in or not, I also plan to get in on eagle force also. So money will determine how much I invest.

Yeah, talking to Paul at JoeCon - that's totally intended to be Bass Reeves.

And he said that the Native Americans would be coming along with the Cav Soldiers. But they were wanting to get a good respectful design and not a "stereotype" before they moved forward.
