I have been wanting to try to some customs and have been thinking about a project which would encompass 7 figures based on a children's cartoon. Assuming I move ahead with this and get any part of it completed, my kids would demand to play with them some.

Now I know I was climbing up into the top of my brother's closet to get his Joes when he wasn't home when I was only 5 (He forced me to make trades against my will). So even if I tell them no now, my three year old will soon be figuring out how to get ahold of them. These are going to need to be as kid friendly, as possible.

So, the big question for me, is O-Ring verus Modern Era?

Also, what suggestions do you have to keep them as nice as possible, assuming paint will be applied?

Young kids destroy modern era figures. My 5 year old is a terror. They are missing gear, heads, and hands pretty much instantly.

My 4 year old and 21 month old twins destroy anything that isn't JvsC. Say want you want about those sculpts, but the are pretty durable

Id,go with CORPs they are cheap and your not out of much when they break them.

Biggest issue on playability is paint holding up on joints, at least for modern era. I try real hard to pick parts where the joints are the color I want so that the paint on them doesn't matter. Use a primer and a nice quality brush on paint and you ended up with a fairly playable figure. But there will always be some touch ups needed later

Grab a screw driver and some o-ring figures and show them how to disassemble and reassemble them. 3 is a little young to be doing it themselves but as they get older they'll appreciate the experience. I know I did. ARAh fodder is cheaper, comes in a larger variety of colors to match parts, and as others have said stands up to play fairly well (with the exception of the occasional broken thumb, crotch or o-ring).
