I saw a post on Facebook by Mark Weber last week stating that his position at Hasbro has been eliminated. Mark was the G.I.Joe brand manager and has been a driving force behind the cool stuff we've gotten the last few years. I don't know what this means for the brand, if it continues under a different department head or what. But its sad news, especially for Mark. He did state he had a few good leads on a new job, but he'll be missed for sure. Mark was a true fan and advocate for us collectors. I wish him the best of luck wherever he lands.

Yeah, I don't follow Joe news very closely but it certainly seems like we might have reached "death of the line". I'll honestly be (happily) surprised if Hasbro reveals anything at the con.

It certainly has been a pretty good ten years though, as much as I'd like new product on the shelf (and more custom fodder) i'm coming to accept the 25th/50th figures might be done.

Edit: Am I remembering right that it's already been confirmed Hasbro isn't attending/presenting at the con?

When he got the job he announced that exciting things were coming... Didn't see anything past a few TRU exclusive packs and even those never showed up up here in Canada.

He must have been referring to HACKS and MTF...

I honestly believe Mark had the best intentions when he made that statement. But I think the whole "combined universe" thing really threw a wrench in the works. Hopefully this isn't the "deth of teh line" and is instead leads to a pause while Hasbro gets its ducks in a row and figures out what they need to do to make G.I. Joe a prominent brand again.

Sorry to hear the news. From what I've heard he is personable and passionate about Gi Joe.

My guess is that since GI Joe, MASK, Rom and the others will be wrapped up into one universe, there will be one manager for the new unified brand. If that is the case, I'm hoping that all those toys will be the same scale and construction.

....am I the only one who thinks the combined universe thing is dumb as hell? I love, absolutely love, the occasional crossover (the Joe/TF stuff, Matt Trakker), but this just seems like a hamfisted attempt to graft a bunch of struggling properties onto a successful one (TF).

I don't know if it was the combined universe thing that did it. TRU was an exclusive buyer for GI Joe, but some think it was because they were the only ones interested. This past year, they didn't want any of the vehicle offerings and obviously bought less than previous years. Most stores stocked GI Joe product once, maybe twice before they sold through everything. Everything TRU bought. So either GI Joe is going so small of a production that Hasbro can't justify it having its own brand manager, or it is on "hiatus" until someone resurrects the concept. It ain't a good thing, but it might not be the worst thing either as far as the line goes. I think we're all going to have to wait and see when/if anything comes out of it.

Regardless of whether they were officially announced or had anything to present the thought was that Mark Weber and Derryl Depriest would be there like the past couple of years. There have been a few years where everyone questioned if anything new was in the pipeline only to have a bombshell dropped on us of all kinds of new stuff. Up until his announcement there was a lot of wait and see in the air. And even now, anythign he had going in hopper is may still be released at some point. We just don't know.

Well, at least we know Hasbro will NOT be presenting anything.

This is a lot easier to shrug off now that HACKs and MTF and Eagle Force exist.

I'm not too worried. Sometimes a break is good, gives you a chance to catch up on stuff you missed. With their shared universe plans, we'll definitely see stuff in the near future, I'd wager.

I'm still waiting for that damn Micronauts revival myself...

Will Red Laser have the Eel Vipers and other Viper repairs too?
