So, I don't have my old comics handy, but was wondering what everyone else thought.

Is Scar Face an officer or trooper?

I don't recall him ever having the helmet chevron or distinctive web gear of an officer, but the web gear and helmets of cobra troops in the early issues varied widely.

In the cobra 6 pack, the scar faced figure isn't identified as Scar Face. He does have officer web gear, but no helmet officer insignia. He also seems to have a rack of stripes on his sleeve, more indicative of a high ranking sergeant.

The modern era comic pack figure is clearly an officer, but again, isn't clearly identified as Scar Face.

So, which is it?

Scar Face is a Cobra Officer.

I believe the issues with the naming of the Cobra Infantry 6 pack and the ME comic pack Scar-Face figures might be because of copyright. Like with the Phantom X-19 stealth fighter pilot, Ghostrider. He's either called Capt. Jeffries or "I forget, or can't remember". The scarred face figures are heavily implied to be the Scar Face character from the Marvel comics but they cannot technically call him Scar Face.

So should he have had a red chest insignia or silver? He was often depicted in the comics with none at all.

I think that it depends on what you looking for. In the comics, a lot of the troopers, even Cobra Commander, did not have logos, probably for the artist's sake. What is your color scheme? If it's comic colors, I would go with red or none at all. I feel like he is an officer, but I have no reason to think that; that look just resembles the way the Cobras were drawn.

My take on Scar Face

Scar Face was one of the first Stinger Drivers in the COBRA Militia. He was quickly chose to serve as Cobra Commander's (The Commander or Old Snake in my universe) chauffeur. Scar Face endeared himself to the Commander and was promoted to Stinger Driver Officer. As Cobra expanded and the Viper Corps was created Scar Face found the bulk of the combat driving being done by Moto-Vipers. Scar Face was officially given his code name and retained by the Commander as a personal operative, continuing his duties as chauffeur but also becoming the Commander's most trusted courier.
