Obscure characters are a fascination of mine, always were, but the older I get the more appreciative of the B, C, and D-listers on both side of the conflict I am. Lucky for me, GIJoe as a mythos is loaded with an almost endless supply of underused, usually forgotten, or (and?) ‘barely-a-character-if not-for the trademark’ characters.
Hollow Point is all of them having the stigma of his only figure release being part of a ridiculous failed offshoot of the Joe toy-line. And a blonde beard. All of it amounted to lack of identity for the character, but as always, I can look past it and find a unique Joe.
I liked the “origin” in his filecard, though maybe it was due to the shades of similarity to a character Michael Crichton penned for my favorite book in the world: In his civilian life he was like Robert Muldoon, wildlife guru turned park warden. That kicks ass! His military life has brought him to rank of staff sergeant in the US Marine Corps and his firearms affinity got him a job as a Range NCOIC. Look at the Joe toy line as a whole, they have a lot of guys who shoot well and teach others to shoot but nobody before SSgt Max Corey specialized in it. It’s that kind of diversity I love to see in the Joe roster.
