Wet-Suit
Navy SEAL

This figure is built around the head sculpted by Krexx Radek, which is based on Wet-Suit's cartoon appearance and allows a version without the air mask and goggles. Instead of just replacing the head, I took the opportunity to crease a new bulkier version of Wet-Suit, to make him more imposing than the original figure, which is quite slim. Lamprey parts were an easy choice for a combat swimmer, and I had an Eel torso left over from the related custom Torpedo.

Head – sculpt by Krexx Radek
Arms, waist, legs – Lamprey
Torso - Eel

Harpoon gun, fins - Eel

Bootneck
Action Force Assault Marine

I received a set of Red Laser custom figures and decided to use them largely for parts, sometimes combining them with parts from a set of White Elephant Toyz figures as well. I noticed that there were the light grey parts needed to make an Action Force Dolphin custom, so that was the first project. From there a custom SBS sniper figure named Porpoise followed, and now two more Royal Navy figures have followed, with outfits that match up with the first two quite well. This is Bootneck, an Assault Marine.

All parts - Red Laser and White Elephant Toyz parts

Submachine gun – Marauder Inc.

another great set of customs!

Stormavik has to be my favorite you've made! everything about it is perfect! so much realism for a o-ring figure, just enough "toy" or cartoon in the sculpt and the gloss paint so clean!

Thanks, I'm very fond of him as well. Happy with how he turned out.

Hawk
Field Commander

The 1982 series of Joes shared a lot of body parts as a cost-saving measure. It appears that every figure was supposed to have a unique head, which was later changed to using a few shared heads. So I'm replacing the heads on some series 1 figures. For Hawk, I wanted a head that projected a little more authority than the Flash/Steeler one, so I went with Thunder, which gives Hawk some age as well, which he needs as the eldest member of the unit.

Head – Thunder
Arms, torso, waist, legs – Hawk v1.5

Pistol – Beach Head v5
Radio – Firefly v4
Binoculars – Duke

Snake Eyes
Commando in Black

I received a set of Red Laser custom figures and decided to use them largely for parts, sometimes combining them with parts from a set of White Elephant Toyz figures as well. I don’t really remember which parts of this figure came from which set, it’s a mishmash of various parts. This figure might just look like an original Snake Eyes with the lower legs swapped out, but in fact every part of this figure is a reproduction part that’s painted black. I’ve mentioned before how much I love Testor’s Model Master flat black paint, and I saw this custom as an opportunity to cover every bit of a figure with that paint. I even painted all the insides of the parts, so if you take him apart he’s stick completely black. It was a very satisfying experience.

All parts - Red Laser and White Elephant Toyz reproductions (Snake Eyes, Grunt etc.)

Submachine gun, satchel – Snake Eyes (Red Laser reproductions)

More good stuff. I really like that Wet Suit, and the updated Hawk head is an excellent choice.

...aand I'm back. I'll be posting a few things I've had ready to post for...apparently 9 months. Yikes. I've been working on a few projects, and have had long stretches where I haven't been able to work on anything as well, but hopefully I'll be able to start posting regularly again. First up, we've got five different Tunnel Rats.

Tunnel Rat
Explosive Ordnance Disposal

Eventually I'd like to give all of my vintage Joes a paint upgrade, to give a little more detail and make them more visually interesting. Tunnel Rat is an absolute classic figure of course, one of the absolute favourites from my youth. He has a pretty good amount of painted detail already, but there's always room for improvement. And sometimes when painting a figure like this, you notice details on the figure that you didn't appreciate before. Tunnel Rat has straps on his shoulders, for example, something I never really noticed until I used the torso for another custom, because they weren't painted on the original. The eyes begged to be painted as well, like all vintage figures. And adding some colour to the accessories helps.

All parts – Tunnel Rat

Satchel – Tunnel Rat
Backpack, machine gun – Marauder Inc.

Tunnel Rat is an absolute classic figure of course, one of the absolute favourites from my youth. He has a pretty good amount of painted detail already, but there's always room for improvement. The bullets on the Night Force version of Tunnel Rat are red for some reason, so that had to change. The eyes begged to be painted as well, like all vintage figures. And adding some colour to the accessories helps.
