I mean, look at the size of the actual missiles he's carrying.
The only thing I can think of now with some imagination, is that it all rockets fit inside the launcher so he can fire them rapidly one after another. Like a portable MLRS or something.

It's mostly fire/smoke/vibration suppression to prevent their detection. I imagine them hiding behind a lot of stuff in battle, poking the nose-cam of said giant-ass missile launcher around the corner to lock the target then popping back behind and firing from safety. Their hi-vis uniforms are for other COBRAs to see them on 'their' side of the battle, hiding from the Joes.

The longer the barrel the more control they would have of hitting their targets. Plus there's a lot of electronics and other stuff in there to have that high-impact high-velocity round get greater penetration.
