The Cobra Rat is one of those later forgotten vehicles. It’s basically just a shell of a vehicle with some cheesy discs that are supposed to launch off the sides. With the prices rising these days it’s becoming harder to justify cutting up vintage vehicles and parts. I decided to build one of the several Rats I’d gotten in parts lots.
The fact that’s it’s mostly hollow got me wAnting to use that space, so I added seats and used a bottom from a dollar store boat and cut it to fit. I also made opening hatches and closed in the bottom of the engines so it didn’t look so cheep. I used styrene to toughen up the hull and create steps where the cheesy ninja star things were.

very impressive making something so cool out of that base! it still looks like a bumper car from hell :) i wonder it it could be a pod that ejects from something else. like a big rolling fortress of some kind and this dude pops out for a getaway or forward scout.

Looks like something that ought to come straight out of the toy store. Hella awesome! Live the natural settings you chose to present it too!

That looks fantastic. Really great job on adding those extra seats and hatches.

Very attractive. The paint job is *clean* . It looks as though it floats as well which makes it actually useful as a functional toy.

$10 will get you an rc boat that you could take the micro components from so you could drive it around a body of water.

was looking at this last night again. was this shell ever used with wings? a big a wing would look right at home on it as a stealth fighter.

It floats a bit, if I sealed it with spray foam it would float. It’s supposed to be a hovercraft which it is originally also. They just did a super cheep as job of it lol

You do such quality work that an rc version might be a bit of a reward to yourself. It's already beautiful.

Beautiful *and* able to be zipped around on water by you with your hand picked 1:18th operator would be the icing on the cake.

Worth gutting and using the "innards" at $10:

I'm definitely in the minority on the Rat, but I'm oddly okay with it.

This reworking, though, really brings out all of the potential that Hasbro just left on the table. It's amazing work, as always.

Cool modifications, BB!
