Cover Girl - I've had this planned for some time now. The recipe grew out of trying to find a good recipe for a modern Bombstrike. While everyone else is giving an Indy jacket to RoC Cover Girl, I decided to use the Luke Skywalker flightsuit to simulate a jacket tied around her waist.

Image
Repeater - Simple tweak. Everyone's done this, or one like it.

Image
Sci Fi - I've seen a few of these floating around the 'net.

Image
Hardball - Made out of leftovers from the Repeater custom above.

Image
Doc - Based on the female Doc (Carla Greer).

Image
Sandstorm - I decided to combine the Sandstorm that came with the RAM and the Sandstorm disguise that came with Zartan.

Image
Kickstart - The Viper vest didn't really do it for me. The card art showed a MOLLE vest with four pouches near the bottom. Coincidentally, Dusty has a similar vest.

Image
Billy - Recipe from OAFE. Leftover parts from the Professor X custom.

I like all of this.

Especially Repeater. I know I've seen the basic recipe before, but what is it exactly?

That's the boxset Repeater/Footloose with Breaker's torso and vest, and boxset Zartan's head.

Man, really amazing stuff, great work on paint application and part choices! my favorites so far have to be sci-fi and Chuckles.

I feel the same. With the helmet on especially, that face is the right age, the right level of intensity, etc... Just feels like a leader.

And even if someone preferred the brown hair Hawk, then this head would still be the perfect starting point.

Agree on every level. I'd track him down if he looked like this.

About a decade later and I'm still up to the same things. First up, my attempt at individualizing the identical figures released with the various vehicles and multi-packs.

some beautiful work! i'm glad you bumped the old thred because it was before my time- your modern joe stuff is incredible and holds up to the best still!

are you making anything now besides the military squads? your paint is great on them, but the figures lack the great proportions seen on your joe stuff.

I haven't seen much talk about Retro Roadblock online. Maybe because of the distribution problems but what little I've read seems to indicate that most people are underwhelmed by it.

So I tried my hand at fixing the entire figure.

First I painted the tank top in a more military green. I then airbrushed a sand color in splotches.

Image

I then airbrushed a subdued brown in smaller splotches.

Image

Next I drew small "branches" using a fine tipped marker.

Image

To give the head Roadblock's traditional high cheekbones, I shaded the jawline with a dark brown.

Image

Finally I sprayed the black beard back on with a slight fade to shade the cheeks more.

Image

I gave the 25th harness and now I have a modernized but still accurate Roadblock figure.
