I'm working on a boiler room Dio. I'm looking for the following- a floor grate, wall grate, plastic diamond plate, a hand rail (for stairs) and other items. I'm looking for links th sites that might have supplies to make these as well as sections of foamboard.
Any help is appreciated.
-John

floor grate- metal or plasitc mesh from hardware store. glue it down, paint the entire floor black then drybrush metallic to bring out the mesh.

hand rails -dowels from michaels, or rails from maruader johns store

foamboard -michaels.

most michaels carry a 40% off coupon in sundays paper. worth subscribing to the paper just for that. i got my airbush and compressor, typically $250 for $150 thanks to those coupons.

I'll have to check Michaels out. For the grating I was really hoping to find a plastic section.

Check the quilting/sewing section of a Michaels or Walmart... I can't think of what they're called, but they make plastic sections of gridding .

Will do. Thanks.
I actually just came from two "hobby centers", and they had nothing I could use. So maybe a craft store is the better way to go.

you could always go to a staples/officemax and get something like this card holder

Image

you would need some standard tool set wire cutters, but you could get a few small grates out of that, and the cells are small...

just what came to mind, cause I have on on my desk in front of me :)

Yeah I make a trip to Michaels or a Lowes about bi-weekly for crap...

hardware stores sell sheets of this stuff in plastic or aluminum. gutter screen they call it. very easy to work with. the plastic ones you can use scissors on, the metal ones youll need snips.

I work at an Ace hardware center- so I have access to all kinds of goodies. I'm really looking for something more finished.

for the concrete stairs, id go with textured paint, painted, inked then drybrushed for an awesome concrete effect.

Check out the range hood filters at the hardware store as well. In fact its good to make it a habit of just browsing lowes and homedepot to see what all you can discover.

Picked up some black foamboard from AC More just now- no luck with anything else though.
Again, if any of you know of hobby sites I can check out, please post them here.
Thanks,
John

Have you looked at Plastruct? They carry all sorts of scale plactic parts and they just might have what you're looking for.

http://www.plastruct.com/

Their 1/16th scale would probably work best. They have stairs, railing, and patterned plastics in their catalog. Just download the catalog and take a look at the diamond plate on page 62. I think this is what you're after.
