I want to give my team of forgotten Storm Troopers a droid. What do you think would be the most appropriate droid for a small team of Storm Troopers and a couple of Biker Scouts, going through a Stargate to have with them?

Astromech?
Protocol Droid?
Battle Droid? (Were those even still in use by the Empire after the Clone Wars?)

Any help would be appreciated.

I think Astromech seems best.

The little floaty droid that the Stormtroopers had in the ANH Special edition?

If they're StarGating they'll be encountering new situations they can't plan for; so both an Astromech and Protocol droid could be useful at times. SG1 used MALPs mostly to determine if the gate-world was biologically hostile, which would also be useful to Stormies. The MALP's use as a videocamera platform isn't necessary with the overall better Imp tech, tho.

With all that, I'm wondering why an Astromech can't have a Protocol database installed so it can do both functions. If it's simply an issue of not enough room in the smaller R2 chassis you can use one of the big R1's; maybe even a floater like the prisonship guards in Mando S1. If it could deploy those Sith probes that Maul used it'd be even better, imho.

PLEASE tell me you're using the new Troop Transport as a Puddlejumper.

I'm leaning towards Astromech, mainly cause I know I can pick one up at my local Target.

AV, good questions about the Astro with Proto database. I have one of the Maul probes... Maybe I'll see if there is a way to use that with an Astromech.

I went back and forth on vehicles. Looking at the Stargates on SG1 they didn't seem large enough for big vehicles to go through, so I decided on either speeder bikes or a small chicken walker. I made the Biker Scout so it'll be a speeder bike. I'm figuring two came through but one was KIA. Plus 5 Storm Troopers, one was KIA. I may decide to add a small chicken walker since I already have one but I'm not sure.

Anyway, to answer your question, I don't have the new Troop Transport so I couldn't use it even if I wanted to. What I am using is a white Quad and a gray Jeep. I figure they found them on this side and use them for scouting and what not. All while waiting for the gate to be reopened

I'd think a battle droid would be more the Empire's style. They're more the conquerors than explorers. And battle droids exist beyond the OT as seen in The Mandalorian. So you could build your own style of battle droid and it would work.

the droid needs to get stuck in a hole in the jeeps hood and take over driving :) . since they are from a long long time ago i'd love to see a scene of them trying to drive earth tech. "engage...ENGAGE...this one is broken too captain." might be a funny "OnStar" commercial .

they could adopt an orphan earth kid, like your mechanic when she was younger. they save her, she syncs archaic earth tech to their advanced helmets and gear. also she could teach them to drive.

What's the storyline you got going on here, SGC? You say 'Storm' troopers so it's post-RotS/pre-TFA? I'm thinking you might have more story potential setting it in the Clone Wars and having a Jedi in the Col O'Neill field leader role. If the expedition is planned you'll have a wider range of duties on the team; a 'fixer' like Carter and a 'cleric' like Daniel; etc. If the expedition is an accident then it'd be a basic combat team with grunt meat-heads. Since Stormies don't generally use droids in combat your inclusion of one on the team implies 'planned', imho.

Naqadah and Naqwadria were both liquids in SG1, right? Maybe they crystallize into Khyber crystals?

How about a Keso? Longer limbs could help it travel quickly on foot.

Maybe shorter legs and make a variant?

I was going to suggest a K2 from Rogue One. I think there's a Vintage Collection articulated version out now.

The basic story is this is Storm Troopers, sometime during the OG trilogy. The Empire discovered a Stargate, something they had only heard rumors of, and start exploring sending hapless and expendable grunts through; a fireteam of Stormtroopers, a couple of biker Scouts, some hardware, and a droid or two for faster communication.

This team comes through in Ireland, just as Darklon and some Iron Grenadiers are attacking the Irish Rangers tasked with protecting it. The STs flank the IR and IG and it becomes a three-way battle. Until the undead arrive. Recognizing the threat the STs try to evac off the planet but the Empire, also understanding the threat, closes and locks the Stargate stranding the team on Earth.

As the attack includes zombie snow the three groups end up focusing their energies on the undead, forming a sort of unspoken alliance. Then other stuff happens. The Stormtroopers and Scout Trooper end up learning from the IG about Earth tech. They end up escaping the IG, that had taken them prisoner and are forced to survive until the Stargate opens again, or they die.

There are other details but I'm saving them for the chapters I'm writing.

I want them to have some sort of droid that will allow them faster communication with the Empire on the other side of the gate, plus I really just want to customize a droid.

For a bit of context, here is part one of the storyline. I may go back in and rework it a bit but cause it's late and I'm tired I decided to post it as is.

Probe Droid. The EMpire shot those things all over the galaxy on search missions for Rebels. It would be real easy for Storm Troopers to come across one who didn't self destruct, especially if one happened to unkonowingly go through a stargate and get stuck on th other side. As for the Stromtroopers, it can tag along, scout ahead, has a weapon, is all-terrain, and most importantly, expendable.

Pluv is right. It's iconic but also not used nearly enough. Could definitely imagine one with conventional firearms attached and some "nose cone" art.

Awesome. Probe Droid it'll be. I found a few on Ebay that I bid on, just waiting to see how the auctions go.
