hard one for me. neither are in my wheelhouse. i'm guessing the blue box is just a box without some special device that i can't see in the pic. the appa even without flight, is more interesting and alive.

Not only do I have my full nerd card. My Little Warrior is only one stamp away from earning hers (she just needs to watch an Anime). She'd recognize both of these.

My vote is for Appa, he most definitely showed he was capable of saving the day more than once. Plus the Appa story line was devastating and made both the Little Warrior and me cry.

The TARDIS is not only the superior means of travel but an intelligent being in her own right, responsible for always getting the Doctor where he needs to go even if not always where he wants go.
As lovable as Appa is, he's no TARDIS.

Can a TARDIS even die?

It did explode in the Pandorica episode, and it was shown to have grown enormous, due to deterioration, in The Name of the Doctor.

If it can explode and deteriorate, then theoretically it should be able to "die".
