At Assembly Required 2019, I was intrigued by jogunwarriors ARAH next generation project. I had a pile of ARAH parts that I had nothing to do with, and asked him if I could tag along and make some for his next reveal, which happened to be this year.
ARAH is almost like a lost art form for me, as it take paint and moves completely different than what I’m used to. But it was fun, and I’m looking forward to making more in the future.
This year, I was able to show what I had been working in as he debuted his project at AR 21.

Relay: Drone Operator
RELAY is a drone operator. An unabashed geek, he spent his teen and Childhood years building and flying remote control airplanes and helicopters he joined the military right after high school to learn to fly drones. His Rapid hand and Eye coordination made him an excellent drone pilot and he quickly caught the attention of the G.I. Joe team.
Side Note: that missile drone deal has been with me since I was a kid, and came from a mask toy. It’s been in a box of parts for probably 35 years.

8/8: Bill the Butcher
I’ve been working with the head for over a year, waiting for the right parts from DNL. Once arrived, I went straight to work. I had two different bodies worked up and couldn’t decide on one, so the figure now has two bodies. A little more work on the tan shirt one as the parts weren’t snapping together without a little dremeling. The last piece of the the puzzle was fulfilled via 3D printing a top hat, many thanks to alley viper elite for sending me several sizes to try out.

7/13: Retro Trooper
I passed on this guy several times. Slightly out of proportion in my eyes, I think it was the feet and hands. Something looked off about him. And he looked really plain. Cobra troopers are kinda plain in general, but as I looked at it again in Wal Mart, I noticed a enough details that were unpainted that I decided to buy one and just add black. In the end, it’s not a terrible figure. Kinda gives me an early Devils Due vibe from 20 years back.

6/30 Dusty:
The last couple of waves of FSS were kinda hit or miss for me. A lot of them I resold. Some of them I had (IMO) better custom versions already (Blizzard, Stalker, Rampart). Some I just didn’t care about the character, and some were just utter garbage (Fast Draw).
Dusty fell in the category of “I can make that pretty easy”, so I started it. Here we are two years later, and I’m finally wrapping up a lot of lingering projects. Nothing earth shattering here, but I’m glad to finally get a lot of the upcoming figures done after so long.

3/31: Snake Eyes
I bought as many of the retro snake eyes as I could find and still do, as most of the figure lends itself well to fodder. Fodder is becoming pretty difficult to find theses days, and I’m rapidly burning though what I have. I estimate without some kind of mass/easier to find release of Joes, I’ll be out within a year or so.
Anyways, I had a cast snake eyes goggled head from somewhere in a fodder box, and actually made a snake eyes custom out of the figure. Wasn’t my intention but it was an easy dremel job, with some small paint apps. I do believe the gear is Raginspoon. I added a mtf holster, and a clip to hold the silencer onto the backpack.

3/19: Batman
So Batman wasn’t on my radar at all. I had been tinkering with that head years ago and lost interest in making a Batman, and the head went into a fodder bin. I’m not even sure how I made it. I think it was two knives glued onto a jungle viper head but I don’t know how I got the face on there. I must have cut it off of another figure or something.
I recently rediscovered it, and coupled with a recent order of black MTF parts I started cobbling something together, not really having an endgame. Once it started flowing I couldn’t stop tinkering with it. It took me a bit to get the cape the way I wanted it to look, and overall I’m happy with it.
2/21: cobra drone
I had a little tank deal from retaliation that I had used the treads for something else. When I grabbed some of the dollar tree packs for parts kibble, it had the piece that is seen here in the bottom. Some selective dremeling and glue, with a little paint and I came up with a Cobra drone.
Falcon. I chose the Tatum head for the youthful appearance. It never dawned on me until I made Recondo last spring that instead of eyeballing camo patterns and not being happy with it, I should just mimic the ARAH figures pattern. So I copied the ARAH Falcon as much as I could, and scavenged some parts off my old Falcon custom as well. The camo Should have been a no brainer in the last 20 years of doing this, but it never crossed my mind.
Next up is me! Who doesn’t like having their own action figure! Kinda LBC as it’s mostly marauder with a Joe head and some facial hair. My kids think it’s neat. It has no hair just like dad. That’s a cold glass of root beer too.
