Not into Joes like I once was, but I want 2 of this figure - one to pretty up as RB, and one for what looks to be pretty great fodder.

Love what you've done with yours.

I was never really satisfied with my gunmetal repaint of Pursuit of Cobra Duke. And with the recent reveal of Retro Duke, it seems like I have to repaint it again so I did a quick Photoshop and came up with four possible colors:

Which one best screams "Duke" to you?

i don't dislike any of those. there is an obvious pun with a brown duke. i think the dark green with some metal on the high spots.

I just replaced the Resolute Animated style tac vest with something more realistic while still keeping the same pouch configuration. Also gave him a ballcap like in the early Marvel issues.

As for Duke, I went with the dark green armor and gave the red epaulettes from the cartoon just to spice things up.

Love that new head on Hawk. Perfect!

I feel the same. With the helmet on especially, that face is the right age, the right level of intensity, etc... Just feels like a leader.

And even if someone preferred the brown hair Hawk, then this head would still be the perfect starting point.

I agree. I grew up on the brunette Hawk toy and cartoons but I really like the solid look of intensity this head has. Also feels like the right age.

I think the last Duke looks the best.

The 50th Duke figure doesn't get alot of love. But that sculpt is a great representation of a modern operator.

First thing I had to do was repaint it in colors a little closer to the 1983 figure but also more realistic. Why Hasbro chose to use the cartoon colors on a realistic toy is beyond me.

Step 1: Mask off areas to be painted.

Image

Note: this is the lazy way of doing things. Ideally, I should have detached the hands, forearms, and legs.

Step 2: Color blocking.

Image

Tan for the combat shirt. Three passes with the airbrush was enough to cover the collar.

Image

Image

Yellow sand for the hair.

Image

Light olive drab for the pants.

Step 3: Detailing.

Combat shirts usually have darker sleeves than the torso portion.

Image

Since the vest is taken from a Cobra Shock Trooper and is based on a SWAT trooper, the vest isn't that accurate to current military tactical vests. Either I cut off the "fabric" portion or paint it to disguise it as part of the combat shirt.

Image

I decided to paint the "fabric" portion of the vest rather than modify it physically but cutting it off.

The figure still needs a belt but is more or less complete now.

Kind of difficult to capture the color change through photos so I took multiple angles.

These pearls have been around for a while now and have been used in everything from car paint to resin sculptures.

Please excuse the fingerprint as I touched the figure before the paint was fully dry.

I've been wanting to try those metallics forever but not having a good idea for why made me put it on the backburner. That turned out great. Perfect character choice.
