Looks like you may have gotten around it then. Still, I personally will have no issues giving eBay my SS#. It doesn't really mean anything these days. It's more for verification than anything else. It's not allowed or accepted as identification, it's just, "Hey you're an American. You might have to pay taxes. Make sure you don't launder money here." People tried that early on. They'd list something stupid than have people bid it super high and send the $ through PP, bam clean $. Or they'd put an insane Buy It Now price for the same reason. Basically, if you see people list something that should be $100 for $1000 they are trying to launder cash.

I have seen that! I thought maybe drugs or human trafficking ,but laundering money makes a lot more since. It was a seller with every item being a vintage concert t-shirt on a model. They were all $600 or more.

In the start of this thread i wasn't comfortable when they asked for my bank account that when I pulled my stuff. They never got around to asking for my ss#.

I've seen it, too. Always had suspicions....
I'm told starting in 2022, the threshold of $600 will apply to everyone, not just certain states.

I also never gave Paypal my SSN.
Also your SSN may be used as identification when registering to vote.

So I updated my info on ebay and they started processing payments.

And it sucks.

With paypal, people payed and I had access to it immediately. I would use that to cover shipping costs.

Now I have to wait for it to process, up to 5 days, but I'm expected to ship before that. So I'm expected to cover the expenses of shipping before even getting access to my money.

That is completely fudged up

i noticed there being a "pending" on my payments instead of just being marked paid. i always pay right away unless the auction ends when i'm asleep.

i think it is so rude when buyers don't pay for days. i even had buyers ask for days/weeks to pay. one guy said the auction went higher than he thought it would (but he kept bidding lol) and asked me to wait until pay day. of course i said yes (never again) friday came and went, then the weekend, about wed. of the next week i asked him when is pay day. i never got a strait answer.

i also went to war with a guy who had 4-5 ebay accounts winning my stuff then not paying. contacting me with offers on stuff he already won. i was seriously considering a trip to lump his head. i ended up blocking any buyer from michigan.

I don't mind waiting, eBay policy is 5 days. After that I will start a non-paying bidder complaint which usually gets people to pay.

I do mind being told that I can't have my money cause it's pending but I better send the item out immediately or my rating could hurt. If eBay wants me to ship I need the money that was paid for shipping costs. I'm not paying out of pocket for that.

As annoying and messed up as that is, the thing that might actually get me to stop listing on eBay is the new seller layout. It's so damn awful and complicated. I don't know what "genius" thought that a completely new design that is convoluted and has far too much unnecessary garbage in it was a good idea.

I just got an update that eBay “released” my funds. And that it will take 1-3 days for it to hit my bank account.

So even after they’ve decided to clear the money I still don’t have it. Meanwhile my buyer is sending me messages about when his item will ship.

Buyer paid May 7th.

It’s the 11th and eBay cleared the payment. And I still don’t have it.

man that sucks! i really feel like they want it to fail at this point. they ran a bunch of sellers off with their anti-everything policies. then with the fraud/fake policies. now they are changing all the pay stuff. it's like the movie "major league" in e commerce.

one of the few gun related sellers who i have bought custom holsters from got his account locked for a week because his adds said "glock holsters" and that was fraud in ebays policy. he had to go back into all his items and say "fit" and or "glock type". while in the wrong category you can buy cheap knock off holsters that say it exactly as he worded it. but because they list in a way to not be honest they roll on. i got a time out for selling banned gun parts. i copied and pasted my text from another auction. but because i was honest and listed in gun parts instead of "antiques" i got zinged.

i can go on and on about laws and rules only hurting honest people, but you get the idea.

Yeah I lost a lot of extra sending money when they banned selling digital movie codes. I used to make an extra $100 plus a month that I used just for toy stuff by selling codes for movies we bought.

Seems like they really want to capitalize on large scale sellers vs small sellers. Makes sense from a business standpoint, they get more fee cash from large sellers than guys like us. So make it harder for us knowing the big guys will just go along with it since it's a company or some overseas sweatshop stuff.

It's aggravating for sure and yet, there really isn't another option, which eBay also knows. They've got the market pretty much to themselves.

the whole e commerce market has gone bonkers. i hate walmartdotcom has become essentially amazon unless you turn off/on the filter only at walmart. i noticed the same on target too iirc. so they are making a small fee for redirecting you to buy somewhere else, that's a crazy business plan for a big box store! also if you sort by price the walmart and amazon hide lots of items that show if you sort by best sellers etc.

i just spent 30m on ebay trying to find a best price on 2 sizes of hobby knife blades. after searching the items, going to their respective "store" for the other size -if available- adding to cart. checking shipping. i never got bellow $13 shipped.

i ended up buying from a hobby store in oregon from the internet that took PP. i got both blade packs plus 10 little storage containers to try out for $12 shipped. used to if i found something on the net i'd look on ebay and find it cheaper there. now it seems on new things off ebay is cheaper.

No one's tried using Mercari or Facebook to sell stuff?

I've sold a little on Facebook Marketplace-- its a lot more "Is this item still available?" "Yes, it is"....person becomes a ghost.....
