I picked up a book on drawing military characters and saw a design for a land based SEAL. I had a previous WIP that had a wetsuit, but I wanted a design that showed this character on land. Saw a light olive drab uniform that seemed to work well for early morning raids.

This character is one of the earliest ones I dreamed up and had the first third of the bio figured out.

Crossbow, Delta Force Liaison


This is another character I created back in the late 80s. This was around the time the Chuck Norris movie, 'Delta Force', was popular. I thought having a Delta Force character would be interesting to have on the team, and then with 'Combat Missions' reality show from 2002, I really started getting behind the character. The design is based on Operation Eagle Claw operators and also on some of the cover art from the Phoenix Force mens action series.

One of Demon Granny's most promising students, White Orchid suddenly left the Arashikage Compound to attend to family matters at home. Has maintained a arms-length relationship with her Master, but follows her own path. Does not use entire loadout of weaponry at once, but is more of a mission-variable selection.

EDIT: I noticed one of the thigh pouches had switched back to being over the skirt, instead of being on the leggings, so I had to fix that. Then I decided to try out some color accents on the blouse, skirt, and leggings. Thought it came out pretty good. This is still just an example of what one possible uniform is. I figure she could have matching outfits for all the masks.

Shortpack is another character I have had on my mind for a very long time. Back at the end of 1985, I saw a Knight Rider episode that had a female gymnast recruited into breaking into buildings. I haven't seen the episode in 36 years, but I always thought of having a character like that would be interesting. Then years later I saw the movie 'Entrapment' in 1999 and sorta refined the character.

So, Shortpack is a former Olympic caliber gymnast who discovered her Father was financing her training using payments from various thefts he commited while on his 'Business' trips. When she found out, she withdrew from public competition as her morals wouldn't let her continue if it meant using money gained from illicit and illegal activities. She decided to clear the family name by going legit, using her small muscular frame to test the security systems of top tier business around the world. Her requirement was video documentation from the highest levels on record to verify her actions were legit. She uses specific electronic devices to bypass various electronic and physical security systems.

EDIT: I actually altered the parameters for every part of her to show the natural body size of an Olympic-class female Gymnast. Nose, eyes, mouth, limbs, torso, head, all decreased by 10%-15% to reflect a young woman around 5 feet tall. Picture WWE Star Alexa Bliss (not based on her, but as for size).

Plus, I'd be honored if someone saw one of my characters and brought it to custom life. I try to make every character believable, even if they don't become one of the franchise players. Some might only be used once, some may simply have a support role, but a majority of them I feel really could be great. I have viewed and reviewed all the catalogs, all the comics, scouring everything I can find to come up with needed characters. More crew for the Thunderclap, a flight crew for a C-130, pilots for JOE planes, drivers and crew for vehicles, new characters for uniform variants (since Firefly would always wear his v1 togs and not a bright green uniform or Ace always being in the white pressure suit).

I've mentioned this before, but I have been creating characters and refining them since about 1985. I have two of the small plastic 3x5 index card boxes filled with character bios (basically the upper third of a filecard, plus uniform/weapons/physical ideas) and am working on a third one as I come up with new characters. I actually made a list of my characters, to cross out as I Hero Machine them. Maybe I will post that list sometime.

I get inspiration from many sources. For example, there was a character that was introduced towards the end of the A-Team TV Show I thought would make an intersting JOE, so I have a guy that does special effects for various JOE-related missions. There already is a precedent in the GIJOE cartoon where they used models of JOE vehicles to fool Cobra on a broadcast. So it's just a progression from there.

One thing I have tried to do is increase the number of dedicated medical personnel on the Team. It's an important MOS and there will always be the need for medics. They may not all be front line troops, but can show up during medevacs and transportation.
