So I'm wanting to start working on dio accessories like large specimen tanks.
This leads me to wanting to work with pourable resin.

I'm curious is anyone has done anything similar or has advice on how to work with resin.

i did a few fails with the cheapest type of clear, like a jewelry kit in a little purple box. also a jug set of 2 part opaque off ebay that would start setting up before i poured or never set up.

i am terrible at anything 2 part though lol even epoxy. i have good results with sculpt putty but that might be too easy to mess up.

most of the cheap clears have a thickness per pour that is very thin. it gets hot and would mess up if poured too thick. i had found and talked to a resin "guy" on ebay that was supposed to be bringing a one part resin that was low heat and could be poured anythickness

I'm also real bad at anything involving "precise measurements" (it's why I didn't get too much into casting parts)...so I'm looking forward to working with that.

I've used them for headcasting and going over foam, but this stuff works.

Have you thought about UV resin? Also is resin necessary for specimen tanks? I link there's lots of alternatives depending on what you want.

if i could add resin to all my specimen tanks i would. for my subjects to float where i want mostly, but also the bubbles and light bending would add that realism they lack. i have tried using supports made from clear plastic, strong wire and anything else handy with varied results.

Have you thought about using hot glue or clear caulk? Fill container half way put in specimen the fill rest. I saw small glass jars with cork stoppers at the dollar store. They can probably stand up to hit glue temps, clear caulk for ones that dont. There might be some of color tints to them. But, alot of that stuff har formaldehyde tint anyway. I some brands are clearer than others. You can get small tubes of caulk too they'll probably be more manageable than a big caulk gun.

If you're doing a clear container anyway UV resin should work good.

i have uv resin but the times i tried using more than a dab it didn't set up. now it was the cheapest i could find, so a better kind might be great. i'll try hot glue, i know mine isn't clear but again a better brand might be. good suggestions!

Did you try sticking the pieces in the sun? I think a lot of people finish their resin prints in the sun.

nope only a little black light. we have plenty of sun here though so i will try. might end up full of bugs though!
