McFarlane Toys is releasing toys for "Avatar" (original movie first, to be followed by toys for the sequel).

There are 2 lines- an expansive 2.5" "World Of Pandora" line and a 7" collector focused one.

The 7" scale is misleading though. The Navi figures are 7" with human characters coming in at roughly 4" due to their size differences.

The AMP Suit is scaled for the human figures and looks to be compatible with 3.75" at the very least based on the images of someone that has already found one in the wild (the line is street dated for mid September or later).

The $39.99 price is a bit high considering an almost exact same version was available in 2009 for $19.99, but it is probably about the same as what you would pay for an original on ebay with shipping. Luckily, I already have a few of the 2009 ones (including at least 1 of the harder to find series 2 "maintenance" versions).

I wonder how well these sets will work with 1/18th:

These are 2.5" scale so they will be tiny. For stuff like plants and animals though, scale can be fudged and they can just be small plants and aninals.

The little environment would be useful for tabletop gaming and they come with light up features to make your miniature wargaming more magical.

If they are going for the Na'vi as 7" then at least the human sized vehicles should be good for 4" scale collectors. The 2.5" stuff though is going to scale too small unfortunately.

I just cracked open the Mattel RDA Grinder vehicle from the first movie line last weekend so I have Avatar fresh on my brain. I'm not looking for rehashes from the first film (thought we'll certainly get them) but I passed on the AMP suit that first go round. I might be in the market for the McFarlane version. Hopefully its as detailed as other current McFarlane stuff.

... continued ...

Was looking at the new Banshees for possible use with my BFS stuff but I'm not really feeling them yet. I'll need to see how much the wings fold up before deciding. Only have so much room to display stuff with wide wingspans (looking at you NECA Gargoyles)

I'm wondering about the overall size and if would be good for background shots. Honestly, we won't know until it comes out.

The Colonel Mile Qauritch figure seems to have pretty good articulation and swappable hands for a 4 inch figure, that's a pleasant surprise. It does look funny being packaged in the same box as the Na'vi characters, though.

I found a Colonel Miles Quaritch figure yesterday, and I've been putting it through it's paces. All in all, pretty great! They managed to squeeze toe joints AND butterfly joints on an 1:18th scale figure, which is very impressive. The photo real facial printing is on par with the best that Hasbro has done on their recent Star Wars Vintage Collection figures, and the addition of extra hands is really great. I'm officially in if they do any more human figures at this scale, well worth $25.

That sounds promising! How does he compare (size-wise) to Joes, MTF, etc? Do you have any side-by-side shots with other 1:18 figs?

Size is pretty good with the one JoyToy and Planet Green Valley figures I've got on my desk at the moment.
