Look at it like a relationship. You love it, but there's always something you wish would be different. I have to agree with you that a lot on these lists are what makes up the G.I.Joe unverse: Ninjas, Billy, Ninja-Snake Eyes, Serpentor, etc.. And I love that stuff, but I can also understand those who think it's a bit far out there.

I think all yellow Joes kick ass, the more color the better. Space joes, aliens, etc etc.
But... It would be very weird if I thought everything Joe was the best thing in the world. We have the right to say we are fans, but not fanatics. People are different and I dont think the purpose for this thread is to spread hate, rather to show differences in our reason for enjoying our hobby. Some like the mother, some likes the daughter, and some would do them both.


Also, making a thread about what we do like about Joes would probably not be that interresting, since we are all joe fans. Or maybe it would be cool? I know there are those who have completely different focal points than me, when it comes to collecting Joes.

I don't know if anyone neccessarily hates any of it (maybe they do), they just listed the parts of the GI Joe mythos they didn't care for. By and large, I think everyone here loves GI Joe, or they wouldn't be here.

I really don't like how Destro is always portrayed as a "good" bad guy. He's honorable, etc., blah,blah, blah. He fights against the good guys and deal arms to terrorists. He's no better a man than Cobra Commander IMHO. You can't be good and do what he does.

Because Joe is so very much bigger than the one, two, or three things we dislike. I can't stand Duke; but he's just one single guy out of some 200-odd Joe characters. I wish all the neon figs would get repaints in more sensible colors, but I've got brushes and paints to do it myself. I don't see what's so great about the MOBAT or SkyStriker; but I can turn around and play myself stupid with my MeanDog, MAGGOT, Hurricane, and Condor.

Everyone's still here because Joe is just too big and spread out to hate entirely. There's something for *everyone*.

The 25th anniversary line. It's just not for me. They look like smaller Sigma 6 figures to me. They're too geometrical and awkward looking IMO. I know this is the way toys are nowadays, but I just don't get it. I don't bother posting or complaining about it because it would just lead to flame wars

Most of the popular army builders like any Cobra "Infantry" Troopers or Officers, v1: Vipers, Eels, Siegies, Snow Serpents, etc.

Card art. What's the big deal? Most people throw the cards and boxes away anyway. The same people who like card art are the same ones who say open your MIP toys and play with them which usually damages the "art"

Red Shadows. The new Shadows were pointless and ruined the end of the Image/DD run w/ all fo the pointless deaths of characters who just showed up to be killed. The originals from Action Force weren't even on my radar


I think most things are about 50/50 to some degree. Some small elements will keep you from liking something entirely

You make a good point Adrien, I guess I was getting a little discouraged that there were so many guys with such long lists of dislikes.
I wondered why they even bothered with the line at all, but I guess Joe is a big enough universe that even with al that stuff to hate that there is tons more to love.

I see what you are saying TC, in some cases this is a hate list rather than what other people love but you don't like, on to the topic.

Ninjas being treated like Samarais. Might be the history buff in me but I have always dispised the supposed "honer" of the ninja clans and how they refuse to use guns ect. All of it is very Samarai in application, totally missing the point of the Ninja (the enemy of the Samarai). In my joeverse, Ninjas are dirty players, useing any advantage they can get (exactly how they are dipicted in histoy) this doesn't make them nessessarly bad guys, although a majority of them are trained to be assassians, Some (Snake Eyes, Karmakura) use Ninja skills to agment military training.

Snake Eyes Ninja hating. I saw a special on discovery that was talking about how Navy Seals use alot of the techniches Ninjas do (modernised of course). Not 100% mind you but that thier are many similarities. To me it makes sence SE would want to augment his training (Thus joining a Ninja clan when he war buddy told him about it). Sides it makes for a great visual fight (Black vs White, only reversed in who is on what side).

Haters, plenty of them in this hobby.

Lovers, same problem as above, people who love EVERYTHING no matter how lame or out of whack it is. The line is so complex at this point there is no way I can believe anyone loves everything. However some people do like alot of stuff and get that reputation too. Usesally you can tell the difference.

People who "marry" themselves to "canon" not that they like one canon over another, but that they think EVERYONE has to follow what they do. The most wonderfull aspect of this toyline is that (unlike SW) there is tons of possiblities, want Shadow Vipers to be Astro Vipers, go ahead, want to keep them Shadow Vipers, good for you. Want to make a custom of Bazooka that isn't in a football jersy, awesome, want to keep him in a jersy forever, your perogitive. Too many people with too many opinions have already walked down the pike for this line to be locked down to hard.

I hated action attack and 2" Sigma Six statues, but according to Hasbro....kids loved them.

The comics, they are horribly written and even at the time, the art was substandard.

Come to think of it, I also hate all the ARAH females except the baroness, lady jaye, and jinx. They were horrible and not feminine. Heck, psyche out is more girlish than ninja scarlett.

I hate that cobra can't achieve one goal, one goal, without falling over.

Come to think of it, destro does sell guns to terrorists, how can he be considered noble?

But by and far, I like joes because they are easy to use for other purposes and most of the characters are passable.

Snake Eyes as just a commando. Yeah, you read that right. I like his ninja bad ass self. Once you go ninja you don't go back.

Joe Colton - there is no original GI Joe.

Tomahawk - Don't hate it, just never appealled to me. Big, fragile, and usually more expensive then better toys in the line.

Terrordrome - You can only fully interact with it out in the yard or by putting it on a lazy susan. There are a bunch of unrealistic features like no way to get to the second floor and a jet that launches right in the middle of a crowded computer room. Even as a kid it made me ask WTF?

90% of the international exclusives out there. Don't get me wrong. Some of them are down right beautiful, but most of them would be totally ignored if they were mass produced here in the states.

[insert specialty here]-Viper: The names are just uncreative, and don't inspire you like some of the other troop builders. Which sounds better to you: Snow Serpent, or Ice Viper? W.O.R.M.S. or Track Viper? I don't think that it helps that the proliferation of specialty-Vipers came post-87 where the line (at least to me) was in decline.

The Oktober Guard: It's not that I don't like them - I think they fit in fine with a Cold War setting, and as an adversary/ally of the Joes, I think they work really well. I just don't like the almost Boba Fett-ish importance they're given by some fans, especially given their limited involvement in the comics, and their almost nonexistence in the toon. I also think that if Joe is rebooted (either a new continuity, or as a tie-in for the movie), they should be left in the '80s where they belong.

The pre-85 Joe figures: Let's face it - these figures were scrawny, bland (especially in the case of 82), and misproportioned. Most everything produced from 85-90 were light-years ahead of these figures.

Destro with a silver helmet: Ok, this one I was a recent convert to, not something that I've always disliked, but I just think that Destro looks so much cooler with a gold helmet (especially if it's vac-metal). If only I could find a 25th IG Destro in stores
