Liked:

-The concept of GiJoe as specialized soilders who grew to encompass many members.

-The excitement of finding new Joes when I was a kid and flipping over the back of the card to see who was coming out and who had a new version on the way.

-Duke AND Hawk, yes it is possible to like both. Never got the "underwear in a jumble" attitude of fans who HATED a fictional character to the extent they do when it comes to Duke.

-Brown hair Hawk :)

-Creativity Hasbro used back in the 80's with GiJoe and the attention and detail they put into the figures.

-25th Anniversary figures for the most part have taken every complaint since 2002 and tried to implement them. I'd say they've done a pretty good job. Also the fact that they are getting away from the stylized approach from the first two box sets makes me happy.

-Sunbow cartoon was fun, and I agree with a few others the comic had it's fair share of bad dialogue, stupid plot points and weak storytelling.

-Comic book when it was good, especially the Cobra Civil War and the entire art run that
Ron Wagner had. This guy was THE BEST artist for GiJoe in my book. Realistic looking characters, with great movement and an ability to set up a scene and have it look cool, even if people were just standing around and talking. The most underrated artist in GiJoe's run in my opinion.

Hate:

-Scarlet/Snake Eyes relationship this was always lame to me. When I started reading the comic it never seemed to work for me and never has.

-Scarlet in the comic and the cartoon. I don't know what it is about her but she is just very annoying. Lady Jaye was a strong women but not whiney like Scarlet always seems to be.

-Ninjas-I didn't mind Storm Shadow and didn't mind Snake Eyes upping his Seal training to learn where it all came from. But this over emphasis of Ninjas in the GiJoe universe sucks in my opinion. There are, I think, 300 some odd characters who can be explored, the Ninja well is dry.

-blonde hair Hawk ;)

-Fans who are unable to accept that RAH was over 20 years ago and those figures don't hold up to modern toy making. I can understand preferences but people who think these figures look better then any modern toys...I just don't get them.

-Snake Eyes use in the comic-enough let's move on.

-DIC cartoon just sucked pure and simple. It's too bad that DIC's lack of work ethic seems to of translated to most modern day cartoons as well: -poor animation, bad storytelling, horrible voice acting, obvious synthesized music to name only a few.

-The Sci-Fi: Don't get me wrong, Flash, Grand Slam, those were cool but sometimes the line just went a little too out there (Predacon) It was a toy and a comic book and science fiction is a staple of both but you CAN go too far.
In recent years I changed that philosophy with the advent of New Mold and a slight change of heart.

-Ninjas: It was insane when I was young and Hasbro went overboard, I never used SE as a Ninja, he was usually a Commando that kicked ass and took names.

-People that rip New Mold: No it wasn't perfect but it brought about some great figs like the V3 Interrogator and Jinx and towards the end they'd finally gotten into the swing of things and they actually captured the human form fairly well.

-Tech Enhanced Shotguns: I love Major Barrage, he looks like a mean mofo but how do you TECH Enhance a shotgun? With the exception of a few improvements by Bennelli shotgun technology stagnated YEARS ago. I don't know if anyone else hates these things half as much as I do.

-Big Brawler: It's supposed to be things everyone else loves but just for the record-Who is this guy? Outbacks stunt double? A cheap rip-off? He's a shrink, special warfare operator, survival expert, ninja master, pimp, king, ding-a-ling. He's good for a laugh but the character just rubbed me wrong.

-Holographic CC: What is this? I know it's based on the comic but this was the last thing we need. All Hasbro needed to do was add Vader to the Comic Pack to complete their journey to the darkside.

-25th: I accept that RAH is over, fine but the initial issues with this line left a bad taste in my mouth. The lack of backpacks, the articulation that didn't quite work, Hasbro's crappy (and still crappy in my area) distribution of these figures, really left me cold. If you're going to release an "Improvement" over an existing, much beloved toyline...make sure the damn things work right.

#1- The "Ninja-fication" of everyone: Storm Shadow was the only ninja.

#2- Storm Shadow as a good guy: He was Cobra Commander's Ninja bodyguard, spy, and asassin, period.

#3- Cobra Commander "returning from the dead": I thought Fred replacing Cobra Commander was too cool.

#4- Zartan killing Serpentor: Zartan (see #1) had to use sonic enhancements and junk to shoot a meditating old man, and Serpentor had Storm Shadow's DNA in his mix, but Zartan was able to shoot Serpentor in the eye, with an arrow, at a great distance? BS.

#5- The Drednoks: Echoing previous posts. With Cobra having Crimson Guard Elite troops, and all of their other resources, they needed to rely on a bunch of "LASER BLAST" bikers?!

#6- Many '97 and later vehicles (not all): Mamba = ugly. Condor = ugly and "LASER BLAST". Claw 2 = ugly. Fang 2 = ugly and pointless. etc.

#7- Subgroup repaints: Hate Tiger Force and Python Patrol.

#8- Snake Eyes v.3: Always hated that figure. From his silver Oakley's to the stupid chef knives on his chest.

My two cents:

Ninjas- seriously, this bugged me even then. Ninjas, period, much less ninjas that all knew each other for thirty years, and now all conduct world wars because they don't like each other.
Little known fact: Martial arts only work if ALL the people in the fight are following the rules. You get one cat in the fight that isn't, he's going to be the last one standing. Also, I don't care how much Ninja training you've had, when you get shot, you don't fight no more. Period. You sit down, and bleed. That's it.

The lack of discipline/uniformity- This was an elite military unit, full of the most highly trained and specialised warriors the U.S. Military could muster, and a couple of these turkeys turn up for work in football jerseys or whatnot? Gimme a break. In the real military, you get reamed out if you get caught outside without your hat on, much less running around shirtless and barefooted. Trust me, nobody that knows anything about being in combat is going to want to be head to toe bright red, yellow and chartreuse.

the cartoon- well, I have been told that I was a precocious child, but even at ten, I knew that: soldiers sometimes get killed; if you hit an airplane with a missile, the pilots sometimes don't get out; that you can't karate chop a tank to pieces; that if the wing of a plane hits anything, much less a speeding Hiss tank, the plane will come apart killing the crew, not slice the tank into two halves without harming the crew of the tank; and that guys who have laser rifles that shoot line straight with zero recoil yet still can't hit the other guys (who are similarly armed and just as bad at marksmanship) when they are only 15-20 feet away probably aren't all that elite a military force after all. As ninjafied and soap opera as the comic was, at least people got killed in this big WAR that was going on.

the preposterous goofiness of some of the vehicles- Buzzboar? How hard was that on the motor pool? Pogo? Just... Why? Seriously, military vehicles are role specific. What niche does that goofy ass thing fill? Mamba? Would that thing even fly, with it's rotors canted that way? Also, what's with the names? Why in the world would anyone call a military vehicle a Maggot? They usually aim for intimidation like Grizzly or Warthog, or allude to certain vitesse et puissance like cheetah or thunderbolt. I guess they couldn't come up with anymore snake names.

Oh, and why are the IG paratroopers called the Iron Anvils? The anvil is the piece that is struck. Why not the iron hammers? Um, how great is it to be a part of a paratrooper force that likens itself to something that plummets out of the sky uncontrolled and embeds itself a couple feet in the ground? Kind of makes me feel as if they don't know what they're doing.
