Okay, I'm just wondering: what do you guys think of Deep Six?

I ask because, for some reason, I've always held the character in high regard, even though the figures were... eh.

V1: Brick.
V2: RAD deep sea diver figure, but in a spec-ops team like Joe, a bit limited. And why the neon helmet?
V3: Nice dolphin, nice dive suit. Again saddled with the neon.

When I was a kid, what I wanted was a Deep Six with a dive suit like he had with V1, but with real articulation. That way he could help out Torpedo and Wet-Suit like he did in the toon/comic.

Now that I'm older, I'd be keen on a shipside Deep Six. I don't have the skills for either of those projects, and hope Hasbro bothers with them. But what do you guys think?

Does Deep Six have a role in your "verse," and if so, what?

Would you like to see more Deep Six figures? Or should the character drop dead?

Deep Six became a favorite of mine as a kid because of the cartoon, though I've always been fascinated by the ocean and deep sea divers.

Like you, I also wanted a V1 figure with better articulation, but V2 was a good consolation version of the character. He's actually one of the only ARAH figures I display with my 25th stuff (alongside B.A.T. V1 and Barbeque), day-glo colors and all.

I'm REALLY hoping for a 25th Anniversary-style Deep Six before the line ends, preferably in his original costume... only this time chock full of 21st century super-articulated goodness. A two-pack with Torpedo would be an ideal way to get 'im out.

I always liked Deep Six myself and have a RAH custom Ship Side of him that I entered in the :In the Navy Group Project awhile back.
Image

You can see more pix of him and the G.I. Jane here,
http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/custo ... vy&c=jane2

Making him was super easy and I think even a beginner customizer could make one, so get yourself a Shipwreck, Cutter and Deep Six (or Hawk, Flash, Steeler, or Short Fuse) head, and slap you one together. ;)

Deep Six v2 and v3 suffer from what a lot of Joes suffer from: "LASER BLAST" color schemes.

v1 strayed from the formula that worked and was forever cursed as a result. Joes put Star Wars out of business because of articulation. Deep Six v1 was a step backward.

Heres a couple of Deep Six customs I've done:

I prefer a version 2 head on a topside chest, with BC roadblock arms and cutter legs.

i am at work so no picks

I would love a 25th anniversary version, especially if they based it off of this picture

If they'd make that big suit and articulate the joints, that would be a perfect Deep Six. That's what I always wanted myself. I settled on v2 as my normal Deep Six that I used, but of course he flopped around in the SHARC.

I must be one of the few people who liked Deep Six v1. It seems like over half my Joe playtime took place in some body of water or another, so he got a lot of play. Either battling EELs to a sunken object or aiding the Joes in the SHARC. When I got older, I realized how much of a brick he was though and ended up doing an articulated New Sculpt custom http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/customs_specific_item.php?kind=figure&alpha=D&id=1771

I've always had a soft spot for Deep Six even though the v.1 figure was less than spectacular. He got a good bit of play and combined with the SHARC he was one of my faves. I had v.2 as well and he got more play but the v.1 will always be my vision of who the character is.

My way of dealing with the ship side/dive suit question was to make a figure that was both...

He's got his dive suit and he's in a ship side uniform as well so I can utilize him however I need to with one figure.

I've always liked Deep Six. He had an interesting personality in the animated series, at the very least.

The first figure was pathetic. One of the least articulated action figures EVER. Hey -- he moves his arms!

The 1989 version was superb in my opinion, even if the pale blue color, I have discovered, is horribly susceptible to discoloration. But I also believed that the head was one of the best sculpts in the entire line. And it also certainly made up for Mr. Non-Poseable...

I definitely liked the mail-order recoloration of this figure. Yes, he was neon yellow, but for a deep sea diver, that color scheme actually works. That one's probably my favorite Deep Six.

The Eco-Warriors version was very good, without being overly spectacular. I liked the transparent faceplate. As for Finback the dolphin, I wonder who it was that decided he should spray water through his mouth and not his blowhole? Just what we need -- a dolphin that SPITS -- how rude.

And Matthew -- REALLY nice custom of Deep Six in his "surface" uniform! VERY impressive! :-D

And Mysterious Stranger, what the heck did you make that incredible diving suit out of!? 8-O

That diving suit is a Chap Mei item. It's been available as part of various sets at TRU and Big Lots. Only the arms on it move, but it's pretty cool. Stranger's repaint really makes it shine though.
