I know that there's a big contingent of later/obscure joe fans on the board.

So, discounting straight repaints (I'm looking at you TF Flint), what are some high-quality "second versions" in the RAH line? Let's not restrict it to just those figures that get a V2 after their name on Yojoe, but looking at revisioning of a character (ie: new mold).

Snake Eyes V2: This is the quintessential "second take." Take an awesome concept, the all-black asskicker. And give him a sword, a wolf, and a friggin knight's mask? Awesome.

Shipwreck V2: On the other end of the spectrum entirely. This is one of the best frogman molds from the RAH line. It's also a great version of Shipwreck. For some reason, the slightly angry face really works as the salty sailor.

Your turn.

Here are some of my thoughts:

Duke 1992 (or whatever year; this is the one that came with the rocket launcher he could ride)

Roadblock 1992 (originally intended to come with discontinued spinning weapon)

RockNRoll v2 almost goes without saying

Hawk 86

I'm sure there are more; those are the first that spring to mind.

'86 General Hawk definitely gets my vote as one of the more iconic ones.

Are you specifically asking about "second" versions? Or just "additional" versions?

I do think the '86 Roadblock was a bit larger and more impressive, but his first version is more iconic from an appearance perspective.

I'm a big fan of the '94 Viper, too, but I'll stay away from that one to avoid the thrown stones... :shifty:

The details on Storm Shadow V2 were very cool.
The hood, the rope, his composite bow, his claws.
Great figure!

SciFi v2. A *complete* redesign from the ground up; and it totally works in every way. Great design, great accessories, removeable mask, definately one of the best figs of the entire 18th scale Joedom, including 25A. And thanks to the drastic level of changes from the v1 and the relative obscurity, it's very easy to simply slip him into the force as a whole new character.

Not to go too OT, but I remember when the accessories that were molded on were a big part of deciding who to get – cause it made em look really cool. That rope thing was awesome as I recall.

I'm just thinking about additional versions.

I like the 94 Viper, too. And Sci-Fi V2 was easily one of my favorite figures growing up.

94 Stalker wins, as well. The black and green color scheme and the kickass headsculpt add up to a figure that almost worked as the definitive Stalker for me. The torso was the only bad point. While it had lots of detail, it was sculpted in such a way that shoulder articulation suffered.

I think there are a lot of 2nd figures that are different but equal or even better than the original figures. In many cases, it was just a function of improved sculpting and design in the line's later years. But, many of them are the only versions of the characters that I use:

Zap V2
Rock and Roll v2
Stalker v3 (94)
The aforementioned Shipwreck v2 is one of my favorite molds in the entire line.

I'm sure I'd think of more if I really put my mind to it, but all of those figures really stand out to me.

My problem with later versions of characters is when their face changes with each new headsculpt, like all the later Dukes. That's why I have a fondness for Eco Warrior Flint. That head is a perfect rendition of Flint v1 without the berret. Sure, it's an awful figure from the neck down and part of a rediculous faction, but that headsculpt has to be appreciated.

I'm also going to mention Gung Ho v2 and v3. I loved getting Gung Ho in Marine dress blues just because it was so different from any other figure Hasbro released and there was a reason for the change in dress. Then the v3 mold was such an improvement over the original in every way. It's rare you get a Battle Corps figure with better colours than an 83 figure, but bye-bye cian, hello military green.

I've always liked Low-Light V2. The original was ok, and I owned/played the hell out of him for years, but the subtle blue/green accents on the black and brown suit, the mesh sculpting, the removable accessories, that backpack! So much good about that figure. If you accept he dyed his hair (and grew a beard) for maximum night-invisibility, the figure is just Epic Win!

Mercer also benefited from a second figure. Hiding from Cobra by growing a beard, not looking so much like Kurt Russell, and the figure is *thick*, like muscular! He looks mean, his uniform has a nice blue, black, and red color scheme going on that practically screams "Former Cobra". Overlooking the day-glo orange weapons and missiles, he's pretty good.

Duke 92 is a 3 3/4" version of the 12" figure which was at the time the iconic Joe, and it was a perfectly functional figure. You know that's a good thing!

I can't think of a lot of them right now, but I always liked the 94 Lifeline better than the original.

Also, the Sonic Major Bludd was a lot better than the original.

So very this. LLv2 is pretty much my vote for best RAH fig ever.

I have to say a lot of the comic pack redos are now some fo my favorites. Comci Pack General Hakw is exactly as he always should have been.

Sci-Fi v.2, Viper v.2, Mercer v.2, Storm Shadow v.2, Battle Corps Cutter, Collectors Edition Major Bludd, Collectors Edition Wild Bill, and Star Brigade BATT are all some of my favorite versions of those characters.

The Gold head Destro was Better than the first. Most prefer the original, but the Gold, Cape, and Sword made him rule. :-P

All better than V1:

Hawk V2
Torpedo V2
Almost all of the Night force figs
Snake Eyes V2
Roadblock V4
LAW V2
Sub Zero V2
Storm Shadow V2
The '98 figs.....Snow serpent V4 versus the V2, Torpedo, Wet suit, Ace....
Ghoststriker Ace was the best Ace ever made though...

Tied with V1:
Bazooka V2
Crimson Guard Immortal (Technically not V2 But meh....)
Lifeline V3

And as to what Scramble said about the head Molds...Zaps head from the Sonic fighters was far superior to the V1.....
